Tidbits
Summer
is avocado season. Avocados are incredibly popular around the world as a food
all by itself, but also as an ingredient. In fact, Brazilians like to add
avocados to not only sandwiches and salads, but also to ice cream, while
Indonesians love to eat avocados with chocolate syrup.
In
1989, U.S. avocado consumption was around 1.1 pounds per person each year. Now
Americans devour over seven pounds per person each year.
Contrary
to common belief, avocados are berries, not vegetables.

My
Rambling Thoughts
Another
very warm day, but clouds are a light gray…maybe, just maybe some moisture.
Made a quick run to Walgreen’s to pick up my cream. The computer said $5, but
the label said $479 so I had to wait for them to fix their mistake. Just meant
a few more minutes in my vehicle at the drive up.
Protesters
tried to tear down an Andrew Jackson statue near the White House. Trump wants
them jailed and the key thrown away. I’m not a fan of tearing down statues. In
this case, check out the future President’s treatment of Indigenous People and
then his treatment during his Presidency. A horrifying read.
The
official name of Rhode Island is “State of Rhode Island and Providence
Plantations”. A ballot measure to drop the plantation reference failed in 2010
by a large margin. Now they are trying again to drop it.
In
1975 Horseman’s Lodge opened. Since then it has been a great steak house and had
hayrides and horseback riding before or after eating. In 2019 it was bought by
the Navajo Gaming Commission, which agreed to allow the restaurant to keep its
staff and remain open. Yesterday it was announced that they were closing for
good, since the Covid19 pandemic has made reopening basically impossible. Sad.
I had many a great dinner there over the decades.
Today
was my phlebotomy day. I have crappy veins. I drank 2 quarts of water between
8a and 2p in addition to my regular liquid intake. The Navajo lady always finds
the vein on the first poke. Today it took longer to drive to the office than to
do the draw. She hit the vein, and 8 minutes later I was done. Awesome!

Puzzle
Answer

There is valuable
diamond inside of an empty wine bottle. The wine bottle is made of glass and
has a cork sealing the top. You cannot break or damage the glass in any way.
You are not allowed to take the cork out of the bottle.
If you can get the
diamond out of the bottle, it is yours.
How do you get the
diamond out without damaging the glass or removing the cork?
