True Things

 An American Airlines pilot preparing to land in Los Angeles reported an unusual encounter at about 3,000 feet with a "guy in a jetpack."

A recording of the conversation between the pilot and air traffic control Sunday evening at Los Angeles International Airport recounted the incident.

"Tower, American 1997, we just passed a guy in a jetpack," the pilot said in the recording.

The pilot said the man wearing the jetpack was flying at about 3,000 feet, about 10 miles away from the airport. The man came within 300 yards of the plane, the pilot said.

A second pilot also reported spotting a man flying at a high altitude in the jetpack.

The jetpack sightings remained a mystery Tuesday, as no one had come forward to claim credit for the flight. Wearable personal aviation devices have been demonstrated before, but usually at much lower altitudes.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the investigation into the incident has been turned over to the Los Angeles Police Department.

My Rambling Thoughts

Fall has arrived…it is about 20 degrees cooler than yesterday. Still hazy/smoky now the weather guy says it’s smoke from both Colorado and California. I feel bad for all the fires, the devastation to families and to the forests…but…I wish the smoke would respect the state boundaries. California alone has lost over 2million acres of forest.

The new Mulan movie is getting some backlash. First, it was filmed in China in a province where Uighur Muslims are detained in internment camps. Story is that it was filmed in China so it could be shown in China…making big $$$ for Disney. Second, the original Mulan legend is Mongolian, not Chinese. The Chinese government is in the process of stop the use and teaching on Mongolian in Mongolia. Had it been filmed in Mongolia; China would have banned the movie. Neither is a good look for Disney.

Only in Arizona: Rep. Andy Bigg and the Republican Party Chair are demanding the unmasking of Arizona. They believe wearing masks impinges on the freedom of Arizona citizens. Can’t believe the stupidity of elected officials.

I was noticeably young at the time of Joe McCarthy. I do remember that there was a discussion that a couple of our family’s friends may be communist. They weren’t and McCarthy was ousted before it damaged the long friendship. In college I studied the ‘McCarthy Era’. I wondered then how so many people were so vulnerable to the ravings of a disturbed man. I see quite a few similarities between ol’ Joe and Donald. I hope I am wrong.
