The first-ever 911 call in the United States
happened on February 16, 1968, in Haleyville, Alabama. It wasn't until 1999
that Congress directed the FCC to make 911 the universal emergency number for
the United States for all telephone services.
Known
as the "The City Where 911 Began," Haleyville, Alabama, holds a 911
festival every year that honors all police, fire, and emergency personnel.

BERLIN — Firefighters in the town of Werl in western
Germany tackled an unusual emergency late on Monday when a tank at a local firm
making liquid chocolate overflowed and poured out onto a street.
"About a ton of
chocolate ran out into the yard and from there onto the street," a
spokesman for the Werl fire department said in a statement.
The firefighters closed
off the street and shoveled the chocolate - about 108 square feet — to one side
before a specialist cleaning company cleaned the road.
"Despite this
heartbreaking incident, it is unlikely that a chocolate-free Christmas is
imminent in Werl," the fire department said.

Rambling Thoughts
A bit cooler today. Still nice.
Yesterday was a tough football day. Broncos lost badly; Cards lost
by a late field goal to a team that hadn’t won a game. Oh well, next week.
The CA fires are in the Napa Wine area. One winery was destroyed
and 64 of the 475 wineries have been evacuated. So sad.
Not surprised by the NYTimes story about Trump’s taxes. I’m sure
that the Trump supporters will see it as him as cool for finding a way to avoid
taxes. I have no problem paying MY FAIR SHARE, but I do not approve of all the
ways the rich can hire lawyers to beat the system. Every American has had to
pay more taxes because of the rich not paying their fair share. Maybe a flat
tax is not such a bad idea.
I read an article about the Pandemic and Education. According to
the UN, approximately 24million children will drop out worldwide due to the
pandemic. Millions of those children will end up doing child labor, child sex trafficking,
or digging through trash dumps for things they can sell [many times hazardous
materials]. This is a setback for recent progress in child literacy, social
mobility, and children’s health.
