My Rambling Thoughts
An interesting day…to be sure. About 10a this morning, my internet
went off. I assumed the Century Link guy had turned on my new high speed. Well
sort of…he stopped by at 3:45 to tell me it was all set to go. It was off as
they turned off the slower internet from afar, and he had to turn it on at the
box station about a block from my house. I called to find out where my new
modem was. The lady said I hadn’t ordered one. I let her know I was upset, and
to comply with their wonderful customer service she just disconnected me. I
called back and talked to a guy. He said the modem would be coming by UPS
today. I told him that a lady had told me it wasn’t coming and he said he
didn’t know what she was looking at. I talked to the supervisor who assured me
that the modem would arrive today. Still
waiting. Turns out the modem was never sent…so off to Best Buy to buy one. It
works fine.
Laundry day…no biggy. Did some quick shopping early so I wouldn’t
miss the UPS guy.

~ 50 YEARS AGO-1965
~The test pump on the new No. 2 Well is at a depth of
1,091 feet at Lake Mary and producing at a record rate with a 300-foot
drawdown. It was drilled by the El Paso Gas Co. for the City of Flagstaff using
a rotary drill process. El Paso will be paying 25 cents per 1,000 gallons or a
minimum fee of $224 per month no matter the amount. They are also obliged to
maintain all repairs for a period of 30 years.
The Ponderosa Paper Company is preparing to drill another well. In
the same field.
~ The skiing is great at the Snow Bowl, with the Arizona Cup Races
being held this Saturday on 50 to 60 inches of packed powder. 85-100 ace skiers
are expected for the Saturday downhill and the Sunday slalom.
~ A new Color Spare marker has been installed at the Sky High
Bowling lanes. It has a huge computer program to monitor possible spare-making.

A burglar broke into a house one night. He
shone his flashlight around, looking for valuables when a voice in the dark
said, 'Jesus knows you're here.'
He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight off, and froze.
When he heard nothing more, after a bit, he shook his head and continued.
Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a
bell he heard 'Jesus is watching you.'
Freaked out, he shone his light around frantically, looking for the source of
the voice.
Finally, in the corner of the room, his flashlight beam came to rest on a
parrot.
'Did you say that?' he hissed at the parrot.
'Yep', the parrot confessed, then squawked, 'I'm just trying to warn you that
he is watching you.'
The burglar relaxed.. 'Warn me, huh? Who in the world are you?'
'Moses,' replied the bird.
'Moses?' the burglar laughed. 'What kind of people would name a bird Moses?'
'The kind of people that would name a Rottweiler Jesus.'

Really Happened
There was a bit of controversy a couple years ago when power
companies first started installing so-called Smart Meters. Opponents said that
the Smart Meters were too intrusive, tracking information about their power
usage that amounted to an invasion of privacy. There were even a couple of
stories about home owners who blocked technicians from installing Smart Meters
in their homes, resulting in police intervention.
As it turns out they were frightened of the wrong thing. While Smart Meters
still MAY BE invading peoples' privacy with the amount of information they
track, the real danger comes from them exploding.
Granted, the explosions were caused by a dump truck crashing into a substation
in Stockton, California, but on the other hand you didn't see a lot of stories
about the old meters exploding.
The power company said the dump truck hit a utility pole which caused some
transmission wires to come in contact with each other, creating a power surge.
The explosions started at around 8:30 a.m. and interrupted power to more than
5,000 homes.
Residents in the area described it as a large pop or a bomb going off, and
strong enough to shake a house.
Yeah, maybe the power company knowing what time of day you run your washing
machine isn't the most dangerous feature of these things.

Which
countries hold the most of global cranberry production?
According
to a survey conducted back in 2011, there are two countries which account for
98% of global cranberry production.
These
countries are the United States and Canada. In the United States 312, 797 tons
of cranberries were produced back in 2009 and in Canada 86,776 tons.
The
countries that follow are Belarus, Azerbaijan, FYROM, Latvia and Ukraine.

Have
you ever wondered if hospital patients have shorter recovery time when they
have a nice view looking out of the hospital window?
The
answer is ‘yes’. According to a study conducted in 1984, hospital patients
assigned to rooms with windows looking out onto scenes of nature had shorter
recovery times, were better behaved and required fewer painkillers.
That
was not the case for patients assigned to rooms with windows facing brick
walls.
