My Rambling Thoughts
Chilly
night last night. Guess I have to accept that fall is here.
Arizona…my
adopted state…does not get how to do elections. This time there are several state
races and one national race that is still not decided. One might incorrectly
assume that all votes cast are counted. Turns out each county decides how to
deal with mail-in ballots that have signature issues. Most counties try to
notify the voter of the discrepancy, so they can come in and correct it.
However, Maricopa county (Phoenix area) stops that practice on election day.
And they have thousands of mail-in ballots that are in question. So, as of
right now, if you voted in Maricopa with a mail-in and for some reason a human
has decided that the signatures don’t match, you vote will not be counted, and
you will not be told. So, you didn’t really vote. Hmmm. Who knows how this
election will turn out and there really is no timeline for the races to be
declared. If there is a recount, now I’m concerned about my on-election-day
vote, as we sign on a computer tablet with a fat pen that doesn’t really look
like my signature. I’m retired, so I have the time to wait…at least until the
January swearing in.
