Thoughts for the day
The monsoon is giving our town a break for the holiday. Before leaving,
there was a nice gentle rain around 9pm Thursday night.
There has been a large wildfire outside Window Rock, the Navajo Nation
capital, and the council has cancelled all Independence Day parades, rodeos,
and other events. The fire is also near Hunter’s Point. There is a BIA school
there and I was on the accreditation team that approved that school back in the
day.
Another executive order now will add an additional fee to all foreigners
who visit a National Park in the US. No definite fee yet but is expected to be
around $90/visitor.
I learned that many of the cuts to Medicaid will not take effect until after
the 2026 midterm elections. That is kinda sneaky.
Famous Quotes That People Have Always
Misinterpreted
"One small step for man,
one giant leap for mankind" – Neil Armstrong©Photo Credit:
Amateur007/Shutterstock
The quote actually includes an
“a” before “man,” which was confirmed by Armstrong himself. The “a” was used to
avoid any redundancy in the quote, and it does help it make more sense, as it
was just one man who stepped on the moon. It’s thought the misinterpretation
was due to the static in the audio transmission during the moon landing.
Famous Historical Myths That People
Still Believe Today
The Statue of Liberty Was a
Gift from Liberty ©Jakub Hałun on Wikimedia Commons
While France played a huge
role in designing and funding the Statue of Liberty, it was not a gift,
contrary to what people know. The U.S. had to raise money for the pedestal, and
French citizens, not the government, funded the statue. It was a joint effort
rather than a simple gift.
