Today’s Thoughts

It looks like the monsoon is returning. Getting cloudier every hour. Monsoon expected this afternoon through the weekend.

Faith, Andy and I had lunch today. Good conversation, good food.

I have heard from all my Florida friends.  All are safe and not in any danger.

Many school districts are having problems finding bus drivers. Here in Flagstaff, it has gotten so bad that the district is combining routes, leading to earlier pick up times and later drop off times. Pay is one issue as drivers only work and get paid on days they drive, no pay in summer, no pay if school is not held for an in-service day or snow day.

The Proud Boys leader was sentenced to 17 years in prison. Sounds right.

Blueberry Pie

In 2011 Maine named blueberry pie (made with wild Maine blueberries, of course) as the official state dessert, a well-deserved designation as 98 percent of the lowbush blueberries harvested in the U.S. hail from Maine.

Other states jump into the delicious mix claiming the highbush blueberry as state fruit (New Jersey) and the blueberry variety as state muffin (Minnesota).

But there’s nothing like a hot, crusty, all-American filled blueberry pie ready to be topped with vanilla ice cream.

Random Trivia…

Winston Churchill typically smoked eight to ten cigars a day, sometimes as much as fifteen. During the American prohibition, he would get a doctor’s note saying he needed to drink “indefinite” amounts of alcohol when he would come and visit the states.

  • 2004 – The Beslan school siege began with armed terrorists taking schoolchildren and school staff hostage in North Ossetia, Russia. Three days later more than 385 people, including many of the children, were killed.

Today’s Thoughts

Weather guy says cooler temps and monsoon return tomorrow. Sure hope so.

The hurricane has hit land in Florida. Lots of damage. Very sad. I heard from one friend in Florida, and she is doing OK. Haven’t heard from a few others in Florida. Hoping all is well

Giuliani concedes he made inflammatory statements in the Georgia Elections Officials lawsuit. Rudi already owes the two workers $90,000 in damages and may have that increased. This case still isn’t over.

Sen. Mitch McConnell had another ‘episode’ today. It is time he sees a physician and tells his constituents what he knows about what is happening. The same holds for Sen. Feinstein.

Today’s Thoughts

Another warm day…no moisture in the forecast.

I got a checkup and oil change for my ride. This is my first new vehicle where I haven’t put so many miles I have to do the maintenance sooner than recommended. Now the recommended date comes and I’m not even close to the necessary mileage.

One faculty member killed in yesterday’s U. of North Carolina. At least the perp is in custody.

Arizona State Univ. (ASU)announced it will not participate in post-season games. Hmmm

NAU, the local university announced that this fall there are more 1st year students on campus in its 124-year history…9,250 students.

Enjoy

Unique National Treasures for the US …

From Urban Sugar Donuts in Portland, Maine, to Homegrown Smoker Vegan BBQ in Portland, Oregon, there’s a food truck for every taste in every state in the U.S., including Alaska’s Quickie Burger and Hawaii’s Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck. The fast-growing industry (more than 4,000 food trucks roam the U.S., generating $1.2 billion in annual revenue) traces back to street vendors selling food from push carts in 17th-century New Amsterdam (New York City) and post–Civil War chuck wagons that fed wagon trains heading west. Gourmet food trucks became a thing in 2008, when Kogi BBQ began selling $2 Korean barbecue tacos on the streets of LA. Now websites and apps like Food Truck FiestaEat Street and Roaming Hunger let you find food trucks in your neighborhood in real time.

 A warm day

I went out early to do some shopping. All good here at 7000’.

It was nice to see Simon Biles win her 8th US Gymnastics title on Sunday. She is a true champion.

Russian authorities say that they have DNA to show that Prigozhin died. I hope an outside of Russia verifies this test.

University of North Carolian at Chapel Hills is in tahe middle of another active shooting situation. Lots of Police, students do not seem in distress at the sight. Good for a quick response by law enforcement. No injuries have been reported.

In 1936, President Roosevelt established American Gold Star Mother’s Day (September 24 this year).

“We’re a service organization, and we like to believe that we turn our sorrow into service and that we continue the service that our fallen sons and daughters never got to finish,” says Candy Martin, former national president of American Gold Star Mothers, whose son, 1st Lt. Thomas Martin, was killed in Iraq in 2007.
