Thoughts for the day

There was a little less than an inch of snow when I woke up. Now only blue sky and chilly.

The LA area fires are devastating. To add to that, there are wind gust up to 90mph for the next day. Over 35,000 have been evacuated and over 12,000 structures have been burned.

Trump is upset that the flags will be flying at half-mast at his inauguration in honor of Jimmy Carter. Very petty from my point of view.

Zuckerberg will be dropping fact checkers on his platforms. He will let the public report it. He says the current systems produce to many errors. In my day that was seen as a chicken-sh*t excuse.

Inventions…

Earl Richardson - Electric Iron

Earl Richardson improved the electric iron in 1903 by concentrating heat at the point. He developed and tested his irons while working as a meter reader at an electric company. The “Hotpoint” iron became so successful that his company later merged with General Electric. His design innovations made ironing clothes faster and more efficient.

Random Thoughts…

Axl Rose – Real Name: William Bailey

Vinyl records don’t have grooves. They have one groove that spirals inward. They have a groove.

The price of a Model T went from $829 in 1909 to $260 in 1925. Henry Ford continually reduced its price as production efficiency increased. #capitalism

“It is sad to grow old but nice to ripen.” – Brigitte Bardot

In 1986, a volcanic lake in Cameroon, Africa burped a C02 gas cloud that killed 1,746 people in minutes.

Keanu Reeves’s first name means “cool breeze over the mountains” in Hawaiian.

Origin of city nicknames…

Salem, Oregon: ‘Witch City’

If there’s one thing every one associates with Salem, it’s the Witch Trials of 1692, which resulted in the execution of 20 people and the deaths of at least five others in jail. The story is so indelibly rooted in American history that it's inspired countless books, films and TV programs, and still forms the basis of the city’s tourist trade. Visitors should head for the suitably scary looking ‘Witch House’. Once the home of Jonathan Corwin, a local magistrate who played a role in the early investigations of the accused, it is one of the only surviving structures with direct links to the trials.
