Thoughts
for the day
It
is a nice winter day but I could do better without the chilly wind. It is
simply drying out our forest.
This
morning I went to MVD to renew my driver’s license. I was happy that is was
quick and easy…and I can keep my old license for ID until the new license comes
in about 2 weeks.
President
Trump will be the first President to be at the Super Bowl on Sunday. It is a
tad strange as New Orleans had a tragedy a few weeks ago, in the downtown. I’m
not sure how much more security there can be at the Super Bowl, but I guess we
will find out.
My
Nissan dealership has required appointments for oil change forever, until January
1, 2025. I stopped by about 8:15 and it was a 2-1/2 hour wait. So I came home
after learning that I also needed a 10K tune up. I called to make an
appointment and was told ‘we no longer make appointments for routine
maintenance. It’s because there is such a high demand.’ I’ll go early Monday
for the maintenance and have a conversation with the management.
Mayan
Culture of Mexico and beyond…
Weapons were made from obsidian.
The Mayans never used iron or steel for
tools. Instead, they used obsidian, a jet-black volcanic glass and igneous
rock.
Obsidian was used for tools like axes,
knives and swords. They even used obsidian blades for their bloodletting
rituals.

There
are two types of people: those who divide people into two types, and those who
don’t.
A
very important part of staying organized is having a “junk drawer” – without a
place to put miscellaneous items, they’ll just end up all over the place. Or, a
“junk room”.

Eureka, Nevada: ‘The Friendliest Town on
the Loneliest Road’
Back in 1986, Life magazine
dubbed the stretch of Highway 50 from Fernley to Ely across central Nevada ‘The
Loneliest Road in America.’ State officials decided to turn this negative
into a positive by introducing a passport that visitors could get stamped
at various locations along the highway, then redeem for a certificate
saying they had survived the route. The old mining town of Eureka was one such
destination. Thanks to the passport, it has seen visitor numbers rise
and is now known as ‘The Friendliest Town on the Loneliest Road’ –
providing welcome respite along the trek.
