Thoughts for the day

There are gusty winds as our town awaits a snow storm. The weather guy is predicting up to 5”.

Former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, convicted felon for trying to sell Obama’s seanate seat, to get a pardon from Trump and even maybe Ambassador to Serbia. Kari Lake, of AZ is now heading Voice of America.

More about the Super Bowl. It was a good game. I’m happy that the Eagles won. A few commercials were innovative. I didn’t enjoy or understand the halftime show.

Trump wants to eliminate the penny. I’m sure business will just round up to the next nickel. Will they do that for each item or only at the register when the total is rung up. Let’s see: an item is 76cents. The new price individually would be 80 cents. It corrected at the register you would get two for $1.50 (76 + 76 = $1.52).I’m sure the business will pick the one that costs the consumer the most.

Forgotten American Heros…

Robert Smalls

Robert Smalls was an enslaved African American who became a naval hero during the Civil War. He commandeered a Confederate steamer, the CSS Planter, and delivered it to Union forces, securing freedom for himself and his crew.

His daring escape demonstrated immense bravery and strategic thinking. Smalls went on to serve in the Union Navy and later became a U.S. Congressman.

His life story exemplifies the relentless pursuit of freedom and equality. Smalls' achievements showcase the impact one individual can have in the fight for justice and human rights.

Mayan Culture of Mexico and beyond…

The Maya have a sacred tree to this day.

If you've ever traveled to the Caribbean coast of Mexico, you may have noticed the jungle trees with fierce-looking spikes on the trunks. This is the ceiba, or ya'axche tree, and is sacred to the Mayan culture, thought to represent Heaven, Earth and Hell.

It also symbolizes strength, protection, wealth and beauty — kind of like the Tree of Knowledge.

Random Thoughts…

It’s amazing to think that humans started off bashing rocks together, and now we have superconducting magnets cooled to near-absolute-zero smashing rocks together at close to the speed of light.
