Thoughts for the day
A nice winter day. Just hoping we get
some precipitation soon.
Flagstaff 2024 weather stats: ave.
temp: 49.1°; Total Precipitation: 19.16”, departure from normal: -11.36”; 2nd
warmest year since 1898
I filled up my vehicle: @2.74/gal…Nice!
I get a machine to scan my kidneys this afternoon…just to be sure they are
doing OK.
It’s getting harder and harder to
remain positive about our government in action. This morning the House can’t
elect a speaker…AGAIN!
Inventions…
Whitcomb Judson - Zipper
Whitcomb Judson created the “Clasp Locker” in 1893, which
became the foundation for modern zippers. His invention was originally designed
to help people close their boots quickly instead of dealing with multiple
buttons. The design used a row of hooks and eyes that could be pulled together
with a slider, similar to today’s zippers. Though his version wasn’t perfect,
it sparked further developments that led to the modern zipper we use today.
Random Thoughts…
When Disneyland opened in 1955,
it included a lingerie store with an exhibit on the history of the bra. It was
hosted by an animatronic figure called “The Wizard of Bras”
In the year 774, the Anglo-Saxon
Chronicle recorded a “red crucifix” in the sky. Tree rings dated from that year
all over the world show a spike in Carbon-14 levels. It is believed that the
event was caused by a very strong solar flare, perhaps the strongest ever
known.
There are three ways to get something
done: do it yourself, hire someone, or forbid your kids to do it.
China owns every panda in the world.
The housefly hums in the middle octave
key of F.
Quirky town names…
Burnt Corn, Alabama
Burnt Corn got its name from a creek where settlers
supposedly burned corn to make a clearing. The town’s name has become a unique
symbol of its frontier heritage.
