Thoughts for the day

It rained and snowed all night. There is about 1” of very wet snow on the ground. Snow is now intermittent. I’m happy that there is so much moisture and glad that there is little snow piling up.

We are living in crazy times. The government has said that Tic Tok needs to be blocked because it has access to personal information of every user for use by the Chinese government. The big internet stores dropped Tic Tok app for download. Then President Trump gives Tic Tok more time to divest from the Chinese government. So now the internet stores have restored the ability to download the app. Either is should be banned or not. I’d say it is time for a reality check, but even that won’t help in these times.

Forgotten American Heros…

Benjamin Banneker

Benjamin Banneker was a free African American astronomer, mathematician, and almanac author in the late 18th century.

He played a crucial role in surveying the land that became Washington, D.C. Banneker's intellect and contributions to science and engineering were extraordinary, given the racial barriers of his time.

His almanacs, filled with detailed astronomical calculations, were widely acclaimed. Banneker corresponded with Thomas Jefferson, challenging him on issues of slavery and racial equality.

His legacy as a pioneer in science and a voice for equality continues to inspire future generations.

Mayan Culture of Mexico and beyond…

It is still unclear why the civilization declined.

The Mayan Empire was at its peak during what is known as the Classic Maya period, which lasted roughly 350 years between the years 300 and 660 A.D. Around the eighth and ninth centuries, though, the civilization started to decline. Cities that once saw 70,000 residents began to dwindle to eventual abandonment.
