  Birthdays Today:

How many can you identify? Answers in Birthday’s Today below
My Rambling Thoughts

After our big storm and 4 hour power outage yesterday, I thought today would be better. Well, I still have power, but we had a huge 40 minutes storm with hail, hard rain, hail, and more rain. The hail was large pellets but don’t seem to have done any damage. It has been a light rain for the past two hours. Can’t complain too much because it is wetting the forest. We are still way below our average rainfall as our drought continues. Each of the big downpours our drainage pond is taking longer and longer to actually drain. Kids have fun playing in the water and mud, but I’m sure parents aren’t too happy when they return home.
I made my flight reservations for my Sept trip to Denver, which leads to my Sept trip to Ireland. I never understand what is a good day to buy a ticket, but today I got an email from AirfareWatchdog…and I got a round trip flight from Phx to Denver for $154.20…pretty good deal. Last time I traveled it was closer to $200. I called Bob to see what he was up to. He is going to meet us in Chicago but will return to Denver with us. He was out walking a few weeks ago, tripped on an uneven sidewalk and broke his thumb. He’s been wearing a cast since, but hopes to get it off tomorrow. Otherwise he is ready for Ireland. He’s going back to his hometown, then up to MN to see his brother, then to Chicago to meet up with us. Trip is a little over a month away, and excitement is building.

Joke-of-the-day

A woman in her eighties made the evening news because she was getting married for the fourth time. The following day she was being interviewed by a local TV station, and the commentator asked about what it felt to be married again at that age and would she share part of her previous experiences, since it seem quite unique the fact that her new husband was a ‘funeral director.’ After a short time to think, a smile came to her face and she proudly explained that she had first married a banker when she was in her twenties, in her forties she married a circus ring master, and in her sixties she married a pastor and now in her eighties, a funeral director. The amazed commentator asked her why she had married men with such diverse carriers. With a smile on her face she explained, ‘I married one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, and four to go.’

Yeah, It Really Happened

THAILAND - A stampede of more than 100,000 ducks covered the streets of a town in Thailand.
The video shows thousands of ducks swarming the streets and heading toward the vehicle of the person recording, according to The Huffington Post .
The ducks look like they are in quite the hurry as they race around the parked cars on the street to an unknown location.
It is unknown why the ducks were out rushing through the streets.

Brain Teasers

a vehicle's accelerator and brake pedal
lines 1-2: The accelerator and brake pedal are "low" i.e. on the floor of the vehicle. You need the accelerator to move (i.e. "be mobile"), and you don't want to move without being able to stop, so you need the brake as well.
lines 3-4: While driving, these two pedals are not "looked at". The pedals are "depressed", meaning you press down on them with your foot, so they are "used", "but not abused".
lines 5-6: The "functions" of the accelerator and brake pedal are "opposite" i.e. they enable you to "go and stop" respectively.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site has mistakes and sadly once out the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
