Rambling Thoughts
What a really nice day here in Flag. A nice rain this afternoon, lightning, thunder, and a downpour. All restrictions have been lifted in the forest, so hopefully no more really big fire danger. Always enjoy these afternoon downpours.I keep seeing posts on FB that Sprouts is coming to Flagstaff. It is a farmer’s market type store. It will be very close the University if the posts are true. We already have two similar stores here in town so I guess the Sprouts corp. thinks that is not enough for our small town. I have been shopping at Safeway for a while and decided I’d try Albertson’s again. Amazed how it has changed. Lots of new aisles of non-grocery stuff. I’ll probably stick with Safeway.

Yeah, It Really Happened
CAMBRIDGE, England - A British Batman rappelled down the side of a building, fought a group of pretend criminals and used the recovered diamond ring to propose to his girlfriend. Ross Chilcott, 29, rappelled down the side of a building in the Markey Square area of Cambridge, England, tussled with a group of actors portraying the parts of criminals and took a diamond ring from one of the faux-crooks before dropping to one knee at the feet of his girlfriend, Amber Clarke, 28, cambridge-news.co.uk reported Monday. "I'm so surprised. I had no idea at all. I can't believe it," Clarke said. Clarke was lured to the right area by friend Hayley Woodroffe, 27, who was in on Chilcott's plot. "I thought it was amazing, especially since she had no idea. When we were walking up to the Guildhall she actually said, 'This is something that Ross would do,'" Woodroffe said. Chilcott said he got permission for the stunt from Cambridge City Council six weeks ago. "I just knew she would say yes," he said. "I wanted to do it on her birthday, which was June 5, but I couldn't find the right venue. She loves seeing me embarrassing myself and she likes Batman so I knew she'd love it."
Somewhat Useless Information
- Comic Jerry Van Dyke had two sitcom offers on the table in 1965 but sadly chose the wrong character. He felt that being the son of a porter in My Mother, the Car was preferable to playing the bumbling first mate on Gilligan's Island.
- Diminutive actor Mickey Rooney was first offered the role of Archie Bunker on TV's All in the Family. However, The Mick soundly refused the role, saying that the obnoxious bigot was "un-American" and that the job would prove to be career suicide for anyone who took it.
- Steven Spielberg and George Lucas wanted Tom Selleck for the role of Indiana Jones, but Selleck had already committed to the TV series Magnum, P.I., and the producers wouldn't give him the necessary time off.
- The role of tough girl Rizzo in the 1978 film Grease was originally offered to Lucie Arnaz, with the proviso that she took a screen test first. However, mama Lucille Ball declared that testing was beneath her famous offspring, so the part went to Stockard Channing.
- Chevy Chase rejected the lead role of Lester Burnham in the American Beauty script because he didn't "get it," plus he feared such a role would tarnish his "family friendly" image. Kevin Spacey won an Oscar for his portrayal of the character.
- Henry Fonda played the patriarch in the film Spencer's Mountain, which served as the pilot for the TV series The Waltons. He was offered the role of Pa Walton, but after reading several scripts, he surmised that the star of the show was John-Boy, not the dad, and turned it down.

The original couples, before the exchange of a
letter, were:
1. HIT and MISS 2. PUSH and PULL 3. LOST and FOUND 4. WINE and DINE 5. HIDE and SEEK
The odd couple is 'WINE and DINE'. All the others are antonym pairs.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet
sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned
that every site has mistakes and sadly once out the information is out there,
many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events
occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be
totally accurate.
