My Rambling Thoughts
Great lunch with the retirement group today. We went to a small local restaurant that has been in town forever. Used to have a good down home meal there quite often, but haven’t been there in years. Nothing has changed. Diner atmosphere, black and white tile floor, amazing prices, and basically the same menu of twenty years ago. Still even have their homemade pies. Mary is on her way to Phoenix, then flies out in the am to Oregon until Aug 9 at their cabin on the ocean. Cheryl is getting a new roof next week, then in a little while, new siding on her house. It has been a busy week and tomorrow I’m having lunch with my former superintendent. Then on Saturday, the presentation on Israel with our discussion group. Will never understand how people who retire say they have a hard time staying busy.
We haven’t had a monsoon rain for several days…but that ended this afternoon. First came the lightning…very close, I might add. Followed quickly by numerous light, short rainstorms…enough to wet the pavement and sidewalks each time, but not enough to have any running water. Then the clouds burst open and we had lots of rain, running down the street. Love the monsoon as it cool things off quite quickly with a nice breeze.

Brain Teasers
I am a place where all deliveries are returned to the sender, those who perform better need to do less work, and a lot of things get knocked over, but generally speaking, nothing gets broken. What am I?

Popular Native Languages…
Cherokee (Tsalagi)
Cherokee is a member of the Iroquoian language family. In 1821, Sequoyah invented a Cherokee syllabary (a writing system where symbols represent syllables), using letters of the Roman alphabet from English, modified Roman letters and invented symbols. The Cherokee people have gone to great lengths to preserve not only their spoken language but also the written language and many resources are available online.
Common Sayings from the Bible…
Going the extra mile
If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.
Matthew 5:41
Big Lies…
Hitler Studied Reservations
There are many accounts of the Nazis and Hitler studying Indian reservations for guidance in planning encampments for the Jewish. Perhaps Lia Mandelbaum says it best in her article found in the Jewish Journal entitled "Hitler’s Inspiration and Guide: The Native American Holocaust."
From 1863 to 1868, the U.S. military persecuted and imprisoned 9,500 Navajo (the Diné) and 500 Mescalero Apache (the N’de).  Living under armed guards, in holes in the ground, with extremely scarce rations, it is no wonder that more than 3,500 Navajo and Mescalero Apache men, women, and children died while in the concentration camp.
During the film I learned about something that shook me to my core that I had not heard before.  I learned that the genocidal mentality and actions of the U.S. policy makers would find similar expression years later when the Nazis, under Hitler, studied the plans of Bosque Redondo to design the concentration camps for Jews.

Historical Facts…
In 1958, a nuclear bomb was lost somewhere along the swampy coast of Georgia. Its whereabouts remain a mystery to this day.
Retro Native Humor…
Two Indians at Plymouth Rock watch a huge ship full of white people pulling into the harbor.  The one looks at the other and asked "Do you think they'll stay overnight?".
Common Phrase Origins…
Let Your Hair Down
Meaning: To relax or be at ease
History: Parisian nobles risked condemnation from their peers if they appeared in public without an elaborate hairdo. Some of the more intricate styles required hours of work, so of course it was a relaxing ritual for these aristocrats to come home at the end of a long day and let their hair down.

Yeah, It Really Happened
BRANDON, Alberta (UPI) - A Canadian woman who attempted to dine-and-dash was arrested after she was forced to return to the scene of the crime because she left her purse behind. Kyla Anne MacMillan had to return to an Alberta pub after skipping out on a $160 bar tab that she had rung up with two female friends. After bailing on the bill, MacMillan returned to the bar because she had left her purse containing her medication. MacMillan's hefty tab included a pitcher of beer, chicken wings, nachos and 23 shots. According to the tab, the ladies slugged down six shots of tequila, 10 B-52s, six Dirty Hookers and one vodka shooter, the Star reported. She initially claimed that she had simply stepped outside to use an ATM, but that excuse didn't fly. The suspect pleaded guilty to fraudulently obtaining food and was fined $325, in addition to being ordered to pay the bill. MacMillan is unemployed and only had $5.35 on her during her court appearance.

Brain Teasers
a bowling alley
The bowlers always have their bowling balls, which they deliver toward the bowling pins, returned to them by the machine.
Bowlers who get one or more strikes (a strike being the best result) need to deliver fewer balls in order to complete the game.
The bowling pins are the things that get knocked over.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site has mistakes and sadly once out the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
