Daily Observations
My
Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts
Fire
continues…thankfully very little wind. So far: 2000 homes evacuated, the
Pipeline fire is now 20178 acres, the Haywire fire merged with the Double fire
and is now 4051 acres. There are 600+ firefighters on the line, 2 DC-10’s and 2
helicopters are dropping retardant. The jerk who started this told the court he
had burned some used toilet paper and it got out of control. I’m still safe.
City bus service is being curtailed because many drivers are in the evacuation
area and can’t work. NAU and Twin Arrows Casino are offering a place to stay
and food for evacuees. A local Mexican restaurant gave out free meals yesterday
to all evacuees. I live in a very caring community.
Yellowstone
Nat’l Park is closed due to heavy rain and severe road damage. So sad. The
pictures I saw of the park were frightening.
The
bipartisan committee to make new gun laws says they have reached agreement and
will vote on it next week, after it is put in legal language. I’ll wait and
see.

Everyday Phrases
with a Dark Meaning
Bum-rush
We've all
seen moments when crowds bum-rush the field when their teams win an important
game. It essentially means a great force. Its origins? Well, it was used back
in the 19th century to convey eviction or dismissal of freeloaders in saloons.
Riddle of the Day
What did the sculpture say to his girlfriend?

action. It is considered by many to be the first ‘motion picture.’
