Thoughts for the day

It’s been a light snow since early this morning. A little snow, sunshine, more snow. It’s not sticking yet. No complaints, we need moisture and a lot of it.

My dad and I used to do routine maintenance on all our cars. I still do some. I quit with oil changes when the location of the filter became too difficult to get to. So, when I bought my windshield wipers last week, I assumed I could do it. Yesterday was a warm sunny day, so I got out the manual and tried to replace the wipers. Taking them off was easy. Putting the new ones on was not.  I returned to AutoZone for help. The female clerk was happy to assist me. Even she had to look up on You Tube how this model did it. She replaced all three. She said Chevy’s are even harder than mine. Her first time with a Chevy Suburban took her and 2 co-workers about 40 minutes to replace the wipers…and that was with the You Tube videos. I’m sure my dad was looking down and just shaking his head.

It has been very dry here. On Sunday there were 4 wildfires in and around Flag. All were put out quickly. It’s going to be a very long fire season here.

Forgotten American Heros…

Sarah Winnemucca

Sarah Winnemucca, a Northern Paiute author and activist, tirelessly advocated for Native American rights in the late 19th century. Her eloquent speeches and writings, including her autobiography, brought attention to the struggles and injustices faced by her people.

Winnemucca’s work as an interpreter, educator, and advocate was instrumental in fostering understanding and pushing for policy changes. Her legacy as a trailblazer for Native American rights continues to inspire those who fight for justice and equality.

Common Misconceptions…

“Cleopatra wasn’t all that beautiful. She’s described... harshly and depicted that way as well until modern times. She was also the most powerful person in one of the most powerful kingdoms in the world. She spoke just about every language she came into contact with. She was a master stateswoman and diplomat. She managed to produce (illegitimate) heirs to two separate leaders of the most powerful empire on the planet. Cleopatra is always depicted for her beauty, but the reality is that she was a genius who managed to manipulate the world around her through cunning and intelligence.”

Random Thoughts…

The biggest film of 1971: Billy Jack earned ~ $98,000,000

Barry Manilow wrote the jingle: “I am stuck on Band-Aids, ’cause Band-Aid’s stuck on me.”

I only buy one lottery ticket at a time. That way, when I finally win the big one, I didn’t waste too much money on extra tickets I didn’t need.

Chocolate manufacturers currently use 40 percent of the world’s almonds and 20 percent of the world’s peanuts.

The two parts to the word “helicopter” are not “heli” and “copter”, but “helico” meaning spiral, and “pter” meaning one with wings, like a pterodactyl.

Sherlock Holmes is the most portrayed movie character in history.

Approximately 3 billion pizzas are sold in the U.S. each year.
