Thoughts for the day
It’s a windy day that may bring some
rain or snow. I’ll wait to see.
I’m doing laundry today. Not my
favorite activity.
World leaders seem to accept the new
American foreign policy with the hope that it will change back soon. Many are
meeting at various locations to prepare for the worst.
I talked to my brother on my birthday.
He was very congested and set to see a doctor later that day. I’ll check in
tomorrow to see how he is doing.
Forgotten American Heros…
Ernie Pyle
Ernie Pyle was a Pulitzer
Prize-winning war correspondent during World War II. His vivid and
compassionate reporting from the front lines brought the realities of war to
the American public.
Pyle's ability to capture the human
side of conflict endeared him to readers across the nation.
His untimely death in 1945 while
covering the Pacific theater marked the loss of a beloved journalist. Pyle’s
legacy highlights the vital role of war correspondents and the importance of
storytelling in times of conflict.
Common Misconceptions…
“Nero's reputation of indifference to
the people ('fiddling while Rome burned'). He was actually 30 miles away when
it happened, the fiddle (and lyre, the instrument originally associated with
this story) didn't exist in Rome at the time, and when he found out about the
fire he immediately rushed back and personally led rescue efforts. He was also
very popular among the lower classes. He did enact some pretty sweeping
building/urban planning rules, including building a giant pleasure palace for
himself over the burned ruins, after the fire … He's just a guy who liked to
party who was unlucky enough to be in charge during a catastrophe, and whose
enemies wrote his story.
Random Thoughts…
Disney World in Orlando is roughly the
size of San Francisco.
Mark Twain – Real Name: Samuel
Langhorne Clemens
I’m glad Dr. Pepper went to med school
instead of law school because I wouldn’t want to drink something called Jeffrey
E. Pepper, Esq.
