Thoughts for the day

Another nice sunny winter day.

Presidents' Day, officially Washington's Birthday at the federal governmental level, is a holiday in the United States celebrated on the third Monday of February. It is often celebrated to honor all those who served as presidents of the United States and, since 1879, has been the federal holiday honoring Founding Father George Washington, who led the Continental Army to victory in the American Revolutionary War, presided at the Constitutional Convention of 1787, and served as the first U.S. president from 1789 to 1797.

I’m glad that Trump has time for the Super Bowl and the Daytona 500. At the very least he is not signing executive orders during these events.

Now Mexico is threatening to sue Google over the name change of the Gulf of Mexico.

Forgotten American Heros…

Olaudah Equiano

Olaudah Equiano, an African who was enslaved, gained freedom and became a prominent abolitionist in the 18th century. His autobiography, detailing the horrors of slavery, was crucial in the abolitionist movement.

Equiano's eloquence and passion provided a powerful voice for the voiceless, influencing public opinion on slavery.

His relentless advocacy for human rights and justice resonates today. Equiano’s life and work are a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the profound impact one individual can have on the course of history.

Common Misconseptions…

“People in the Middle Ages (sometime also before) considered water unsafe and preferred wine or beer to prevent illness. This is not true, as water was the most common drink available, and access to potable water (running, pulled from a well or provided by an aqueduct, as 13th-century Tyburn circuit) was a major consideration in location of settlements and fortifications. Many medieval monastic regulations advocated drinking water, especially on fasting days. Beer and ale were common because it not only tastier than water, but also nutritious, while wine was considered a delicacy and drunk for its taste (and intoxicating effect).”

Random Thoughts…

Astronaut John Glenn ate the first meal in space when he ate pureed applesauce squeezed from a tube aboard Friendship 7 in 1962.

The ice cream soda was invented in 1874 by Robert Green, in Philadelphia.

The word “mesmerize” comes from the name of a German physician and hypnotist named Franz Mesmer who developed the theory of animal magnetism and used it as a healing practice.

Each frame of the CGI scenes in James Cameron’s, “Avatar” (1/24 of a second) took an average of 47 hours to render.

Daniel Radcliffe went through 160 pairs of prop glasses by the end of the Harry Potter series.

Garfield the Cat is named after Jim Davis’s grandfather, who in turn was named after US President James A. Garfield.

Thoughts for the day

Happy Presidents’ Day. Celebrate our Presidents.

There are 31 days, 12 hours, and 5 minutes until Spring begins…but who is counting.

A dozen large eggs at Fry’s is $8.99. Thanks, Mr. President, for helping with high prices.

Last night SNL ran their Season 1 Episode 1. It was a great trip down memory lane. The show is celebrating 50 years on the air.

I am so glad I am not a Federal employee right now. It must be very difficult to receive an email that you have been terminated, then a few hours or days later that memo is rescinded. This is no way to run a country.

Forgotten American Heros…

Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain

Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain was a Union Army officer known for his heroic stand at the Battle of Gettysburg. His leadership at Little Round Top was crucial in securing a Union victory, earning him the Medal of Honor.

Originally a college professor, Chamberlain’s transition to military leadership was marked by bravery and strategic acumen.

His ability to inspire troops and make critical decisions under pressure exemplifies true heroism. Chamberlain's legacy as a military leader and educator continues to be celebrated, highlighting the profound impact of his actions during the Civil War.

Common Misconceptions…

“That Marie Antoinette said ‘let them eat cake’. There is no record of her saying it, while numerous royals were accused or believed to have said the same thing throughout the 18th century”

Random Thoughts…

Tom and Jerry were originally called Jasper And Jinx.

I just realized Miss Piggy is a plus-sized pig who craves attention. AKA a “huge ham”.

A Bible was printed with a typo in 1631, which told Christians to commit adultery… It was known as the ‘Wicked Bible’.

A group of Dolphins is called a Pod.

101 Dalmatians, Peter Pan, Lady, and the Tramp, and Mulan are among the only Disney cartoons where both parents are present and don’t die throughout the movie.

Whoopi Goldberg – Real Name: Caryn Johnson

Isaac Newton, who revolutionized mathematics and physics, spent almost as much time writing about and studying alchemy, and firmly believed in its viability as a science.

The lint that collects in the bottom of your pockets has a name, ‘gnurr’.

You’ve probably never heard the number 4,138,352,490 said or used in any way, as well as nearly all other numbers.

Phony Bologna REALLY shouldn’t rhyme.

The Internet is MUCH more powerful than the pen or the sword. AND, it’s irrational.
