Thoughts for the day

Yesterday was a busy day. All good! I didn’t have time to do a posting.

It is so hard to watch Trump while he cozies up to foreign leaders who have done such horrific things to the USA and it’s citizens. I wonder what will happen when he learns that he is not, nor has he ever been the center of the universe.

One of the first Christmas’ I did in Mexico we all went to midnight mass. This is a very small and poor town. We went to mass, followed the statues out of the church and watched them meander though the town. Then we went to the next festivities, that included small sandwiches and young kids breaking piñatas. We were also offered sandwiches.  It was way after midnight, but decided it would be in poor taste not to accept them. So we took them. I remember this at this time because when one is in a foreign country and are offered a gift, you accept it. If you are a government official, both countries have protocol. They are not giving Trump these gifts because he is Trump, they are giving these gifts to the people of the US through our leader.  Trump doesnt’ get the last part of that.

Native American Tribes That Dominated History

Blackfoot (Niitsitapi) © native_americans__

The Blackfoot, or Niitsitapi, dominated the Northern Great Plains, excelling in buffalo hunting and territorial control. Comprising several bands, they were known for their fierce independence and warrior culture.

The Blackfoot's society centered around kinship and community, which provided cohesion and strength. Their strategic alliances and rivalries with neighboring tribes influenced regional dynamics.

The Blackfoot's skill in hunting buffalo was not only a means of subsistence but also a cornerstone of their cultural identity. Their legacy continues as they preserve their traditions and share their rich history with future generations.

The 1929 Stock Market Crash Didn’t Cause Suicides ©wikimedia

Newspapers spread stories of bankers jumping from windows after the crash. But only two confirmed suicides were linked to it.
The myth was exaggerated to make the crisis seem more dramatic. Most financial losses were gradual, not instant.

Thoughts for the day

It’s certainly spring and it’s another windy day. Not appreciated, but expected.

Whenever I had to meet with parents, I made sure I had a trusted translator…even when I knew at least one parent spoke English. I have to wonder how any American government official could show up with a meeting with Putin without having a translator he trusted in tow. This is so hard to comprehend.

Dozens of white Afrikaners from South Africa have been given refugee status. These refugees never left South Africa until they got their refugee status. Typically, refugees must leave their home country, live in a camp in another country until they get status. Further, there is no proof to their claims of losing farms or having family members killed. All of this while real refugees from Afghanistan, Sudan, Syria with proven need for refugee status, are in a holding pattern. They have been vetted, some even have plane tickets, and many helped the US in their home country. Trump gave a blanket No Refugees Executive Order on the first day of his administration. This is wrong.

Yesterday there was a protest at Gateway Airport, a small airport in Mesa, AZ. The protesters were against Avelo Airlines doing deportation flights from the Mesa airport, which block due process from those deported.

Their society was organized into warrior societies, each with distinct roles and responsibilities. The Cheyenne were skilled horsemen, which was crucial in their military strategies.

Their ability to unite with other tribes against common threats showcased their leadership and adaptability. The Cheyenne's cultural heritage, rich in tradition and resilience, remains a testament to their history and strength.

Thoughts for the day

A windy spring day.

Last night there was a small fire on Mt. Elden. I could see the small fire from my residence. It was put down quickly and was less that 5 acres. Thanks to all the firefighters who handled this event.

I have to learn more about Qatar. They have helped the US get back the last American hostage…Dan Alexander….back to his parents. He spent 19 months as a Hamas hostage.

They are a rich country and have offered to ‘donate’ a $700 million airplane to Donald to use as Air Force One. Whenever his term ends the plane will  be placed at his library. Even the super-wealthy usually have a few strings. This is one of those things that sounds too good to be true.

Trump will be leaving for the Arab world very soon.

Native American Tribes That Dominated History

Seminole© Britannica

The Seminole tribe emerged from a blend of various Native American groups, including Creek refugees. Settling in Florida's challenging terrain, they famously resisted U.S. military efforts to remove them.

Their knowledge of the swamps and forests was key to their guerrilla tactics. Known for their leadership under figures like Osceola, the Seminole displayed resilience in the face of adversity.

They never formally conceded in warfare against the United States, marking them as one of the only tribes to do so. This legacy of resistance and adaptation is a proud part of Seminole identity today.

Skirmishes between colonists and British troops had been happening for years. The famous phrase comes from a poem, not historical fact.
The revolution didn’t start with a single dramatic moment—it was a slow buildup.
