My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

Welcome to 2022

Living in the middle of a National Forest, I am used to fire, fire watches, and even some evacuations. The ferocious Marshall Fire near Boulder is devastation I have never seen. So many homes lost with only minutes to evacuate. One Focus Friend lives in Broomfield and they have some ashes on their lawn this morning. Several high school classmates in Westminster and Arvada posted they had received ‘prepare for evacuation’ and another marked ‘safe’ on the county website. The only bright note is that so far, there has been no loss of life.

The Putin-Biden call set up for more calls and warned of sanctions if either side escalates at the Ukraine border. Talking and diplomacy is good. Both leaders know this.

My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

Sun is shining as I await the ‘big’ storm due tomorrow. I cleared off my vehicle and headed to Sam’s for gas before the storm. Picked up some fresh salad materials to begin the new year on a healthy note.

Every New Year’s Eve since 1999 an historic downtown hotel has dropped a huge lighted artificial pinecone at noon, 8pm, and of course midnight. Most times it is either cold, bitter cold, or snowing. Still the crowds come. They announced yesterday that it is cancelled for this year. They have a shortage of staff and of course concerns about Covid. I attend those on cold nights, but as I get older, the bitter cold ones happened without me. It will be available on the internet machine for Flagstaff residents to enjoy at home.

I’m looking for a better year in 2022. Of course, that is what I said last year and 2021 was not a great year. No travel, Covid, loss of friends and relatives from Covid. I got a new passport after the Trans-Siberian trip in 2019. So far, I have traveled with it to Mexico for two Christmases.

Putin requested a conference call with Biden for today. The news machine is wondering why a am I.

What a way to end this crazy year: Marjorie Taylor Greene has suggested ‘a national divorce’. In her great mind she believes that anyone moving from a blue state to a red state should not be allowed to vote for an extended time.  Her example was a liberal from CA moving to FL they should not be allowed to vote as they might vote for a liberal in a red state. Craziness.

My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

I woke up to 3” of newly fallen snow. The snow crew was here before 7:30 to clear the sidewalks. It was a sweltering 25° at that time. Nice.

We lost two icons yesterday. Retired Senator Harry Reid at 82. NFLer John Madden at 85.

I kept getting popups on my iPhone that I needed more storage space. I hadn’t moved the 2019 Trans-Siberian Rail trip to my computer. This morning I found a new app that does it easily. Like all technology it took about 30 minutes to set it up and then it moved over 500 photos in about 30 seconds. Amazing.

I’m also doing 2 loads of laundry from my trip and finding places for my Christmas gifts. The second activity is always fun, the first activity, not so much.

I was watching a news segment on the horrific killing of the 14-year-old girl in LA. A retired police officer was commenting on the piece. He reminded me from my gun safety class in Boy Scouts, that the first thing to remember when firing a gun…’Look carefully to see what is behind your target and know where your bullet will go.’ Too bad the officer forgot that lesson. He also pointed out that the bodycam video did not show a need for lethal force at the time of the incident. So sad.
