Free Rambling Thoughts

I
ran some errands for my upcoming trip…picked up meds that I need—no-malaria
pills and some I hope I don’t need—antibiotic, and diarrhea meds. I’m looking
for an inexpensive small day pack or a messenger bag. It will be used for our
daily walking with cameras and any stuff I buy. I haven’t found what I want
yet, but am sure I will.
I
am tired of reading and hearing ignorant people talking about government waste
and too many regulations. Most are just ramblers who have no idea what they are
talking about. Today’s misstep was Rand Paul saying that mining regulations are
too strict. When asked what would happen if there was a mining disaster due to
lack of regulations—his response was that the workers could move to another
mine with a better safety record. But…but…but..what about the miners who are
killed? Or the families of those killed? These Tea Party people just don’t seem
to think.
I
had a strange encounter at the pharmacy parking lot this afternoon. It is in a
strip mall with pull in parking in front of all the stores and then a large
parking lot across a wide driving area. As I was backing out, I saw a 50
something lady walking behind all the cars, not on the provided sidewalk. I had
back out about ½ way when I saw her walking. I stopped. It was a nice day and
my window was rolled down. When I stopped she chose to walk father into the driving
lane to go behind my vehicle. As she walked behind my car, in the driving lane,
she yelled, “hey a**hole, pedestrians have the right of way. You should have
pulled back in.” I surprised myself, and simply replied, “Have a great day.”
After walking behind my vehicle she then walked between the next two cars and
got on the sidewalk. Strange lady.

- Tests conducted by St. Lawrence University in New York found that there were more left-handed people with IQs over 140 than right-handed people. Famous left-handed intellectuals include Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, and Benjamin Franklin.
- The Incas thought left-handers were capable of healing and that they possessed magical abilities. The North American Zuni tribe believed left-handedness signified good luck.
- Herbert Hoover is believed to be the first left-handed U.S. president, though James Garfield could write Greek with the left hand and Latin with the right.
- Connections between the right and left sides of the brain are faster in the left-hand people. This means information is transferred faster, making left-handers more efficient in dealing with multiple stimuli and using both sides of the brain more easily.
- Researchers postulate that the proportion of left-handers has remained constant for over 30,000 years.
- Some scholars postulate that increased levels of testosterone in the womb increase the chances of becoming left-handed. This may explain the correlation that seems to exist between left-handedness and some immune disorders, as testosterone has been linked to immune disorders.
OCALA,
Fla. - The owners of a Florida ice cream shop said they want to assure locals
their white-hooded ice cream cone mascot is in no way associated with the Ku
Klux Klan.
Jose Cantres, co-owner of Ice Cream Family
Corner and Sandwiches in Ocala, said he and other workers have heard through
word of mouth and on Facebook that some passersby believe their costumed
mascot, a vanilla ice cream cone, resembles a KKK member in the group's
signature robes, the Ocala Star-Banner reported Tuesday.
"One
(customer) told me, 'I had to think twice before coming in here because I
thought it was KKK,'" manager Liza Diaz said. Diaz, who moved to Florida
from Puerto Rico, said she had never heard of the KKK until the controversy at
the 2-month-old business began.
"We're
a friendly environment, family-oriented," Diaz said. "We're not
(racist). We're very friendly, very religious."

Three
old couples were having tea one fine day. There were all chatting and whatnot
when one of the men, trying to get a chuckle, said to his wife, "Pass the
honey, honey!”
Getting
the chuckle he expected, he carried on. A moment later, the second man said,
"Pass the sugar, sugar!"
This
got a bit of a bigger laugh, so the third man, although not quite as clever or
quick-witted as the other two, decided to join in the fun. He waited for the
perfect opportunity, cleared his throat and then confidently said, "Pass
the tea, bag!"
