My Rambling Thoughts
Actually had to close windows before retiring last night…didn’t do
it the night before and about 5a the furnace came on. I had forgotten to put it
on ‘off’ for the summer. Closing windows worked just fine.
Some very strange coincidences today…United Airlines shut down all
its flights due to a ‘router’ problem; about an hour later the Wall Street
Journal website stopped working; then the NY Stock Exchange computers shut
down. In today’s world of cyber security, or lack of, everybody in power over
these entities was saying it was not a cyber-attack. Each claimed, over and
over, that it was an internal problem. Everything was up and running in about 2
hours. The mere number of announcements from United, NYSE, WSJ, FBI, NSA, White
House, and Dept. of Treasury sure kept the news channels busy. For those of us
who believe ‘there are no coincidences’ this was a little troubling.

50 YEARS
AGO-1965
A railroad flat car had
been waiting on the spur when it “got away,” headed down the spur, jumped the
track at the end of the line and crashed the pickup truck in the back yard of
Frank Auza.
A wind-whipped fire started by a spark from a welding torch
entirely engulfed the barn on the ranch of Frank B. Randall. The fire was
entirely fought by his sons with the ranch water truck since the ranch is
located in Yavapai County, where Coconino County equipment cannot go. The
horses were saved.
A couple who were not wearing life vests and could not swim
drowned in mirror-calm Lake Mary waters when their 19-foot aluminum fishing
boat overturned on Monday. Coconino County Sheriff Cecil Richardson.

Happened
KUNMING,
China (UPI) - A Chinese man turned his pets over an animal rescue group after
the two "puppies" he adopted two years ago grew up to be Asian black
bears. Wang Kayui of Yunnan Province said he adopted the two
"puppies" from Vietnam about two years ago and when the animals began
to grow he discovered they were actually bears. Wang said the animals were very
well behaved and he kept them at his home until he recently saw a leaflet about
endangered animals from the local Public Security Bureau and discovered his
pets were Asian black bears, a Category 2 protected species. The bears were
taken June 30 to the Yunnan Wild Animal Rescue Center, where officials
confirmed they were male and female Asian black bears, also known as moon
bears. A spokesman for the center said both animals were in good health.

Somewhat Useless
Information
Originally,
producers had the idea to make Grease an animated movie - they settled on a
live-action film with animated opening credits instead.
Henry Winkler was considered for the part of Danny but he turned it down
because he didn't want to be typecast after starring on Happy Days.
Dinah Manoff, who played Marty, couldn't dance, so she was conveniently missing
from most of the dance scenes.
"You're the One that I Want" was filmed at a traveling carnival that
was only in town for the day. Portions of the carnival had to be re-created
later for close-up shots.
The producers had hoped for a product placement deal with Coke, but it fell
through. There are several shots of Coca-Cola products and signs in the scenes
taking place in the Frosty Palace that have been blurred out or digitally
removed.
The song "Greased Lighting" was originally supposed to be sung by
Jeff Conaway, but John Travolta convinced producers to let him sing it instead.
