My Rambling Thoughts
The monsoon has returned with a vengeance. Lots of lightning, thunder, and some wind. So far, just a little rain, but still very dark sky so more is on the way.
Not sure yet how the clouds will affect the eclipse tomorrow. Here at 7000’ we are expecting an 80% eclipse. I will be observing it old fashioned way, the old pin-hole box. Navajo have a tradition of praying, staying inside, fasting, and not moving around during an eclipse. Many public and BIE schools on the rez are closing tomorrow, many allowing staff a day off too. The Navajo Nation gave administrative leave to all but emergency personnel. Always good to honor tradition.
As a side note: There are lots of fake eclipse glasses out there, some even sold on Amazon. Be careful. And I am a believer in government regulation for lots of things! There are way too many crazies out there who want to make a buck and will make up just about anything to get you to buy it. Without government regulation there would be a whole lot more.
Sunday news shows were good this morning. We will survive, it won’t be pretty, but our form of government will be around for a long time. Good to hear. Always been so much easier to recognize other people’s flaws and tell them how to correct them than it is to recognize our own flaws and correct them.
