My Rambling Thoughts

Day started out a little cloudy. I headed out to do my weekly shopping. By the time I got back there was a huge very dark cloud up in the sky. About 5 minutes after I brought in my supplies, the rain started. Still coming down. Welcomed by most of us, unless you had to be outside.

Goodness. 45 is telling Indiana people that Healthcare will be back on the ‘front burner’ next year as soon as reconciliation starts again. And now he is ready to do tax reform. Promises are cheap. Not very much information, if any, in his speech…the speech that promised to give us serious information. Not a surprise.

*- World's first Sand Hostel open in Australia -*

A handful of lucky winners were given the opportunity to stay in a hostel made entirely out of sand in Australia. Mad Max and The Blue Lagoon World production designer Jon Dowding designed the "Sand Hostel" on The Gold Coast, Kurrawa Terrace. "Hostelworld North America and Destination Gold Coast have transformed beautiful Broadbeach into a hostel made out of sand - featuring everything your dream hostel would include: an outdoor bar, beach volleyball, comfy beds, good vibes, DJs and live music," the hostel's Facebook page states. Denis "Sandman" Masoud used 24 tons of sand to craft the unique hostel featuring an eight-bed dorm and a private double room. A total of 10 people were chosen to stay at the pop-up hostel, complete with free food, drinks, and other luxuries.

My Rambling Thoughts

No wind at all. Cool fall temps. Lots of clouds. Good day.

About 5 years ago the only cable company here got in a fight with one of its distributors. I lost Comedy Central, MTV, Nick, BET, and a few others. For me, the biggest loss was Comedy Central. The cable company claimed it would be cheaper to have other channels. Lots of right-wing stuff showed up…channels like the Blaze. Suddenly Sunday afternoon as I was looking at the guide on the TV I suddenly saw that Comedy Central, et al had returned. I am a happy camper. Thanks to my DVR I now can watch The Daily Show and others every day. Feeling very good about that.

Disappointed by the Cardinals playing last night, not surprised, just disappointed.

I recall teaching ESL classes for teachers. One of my favorite classes dealt with teaching about various culture’s needs in learning English. How languages have sounds that are not in English and how learners will substitute a sound in their language for an English sound they have trouble pronouncing. One of the cultures we studied was the Puerto Ricans. I was always amazed at how many American citizen teachers did not know that PR’s were also American Citizens. For many back then their only knowledge for PR’s was from West Side Story. Sadly, as I listen to the news, many Americans and many in our government are having a hard time getting aid to PR. 45 even made some statement about how far they are in debt when he was talking about sending aid. I have to wonder if we would have this much trouble getting aid to Hawaii?

A British cyclist set a new world record by biking around the world in less than 80 days. Ultra-endurance cyclist Mark Beaumont rode his bicycle 18,000 miles, across 16 different countries in 78 days, 14 hours and 40 minutes to set the Guinness World Record for fastest circumnavigation by bicycle. "This has been, without doubt, the most punishing challenge I have ever put my body and mind through," Beaumont said. He began the journey in France on July 2 and made his way through frigid sub-zero winters in Australia and New Zealand and the possibility of lingering bad weather in the United States from Hurricane Irma before ending the feat by rolling through the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Beaumont broke the previous world record of 123 days and 43 minutes held by Andrew Nicholson from New Zealand, on the path he dubbed the "Artemis World Cycle." During the journey, he also broke world records or the farthest distance cycled in one month with 7,031 miles. "This was a fantastic milestone to achieve during the challenge of getting around the world in eighty days. I hope it is used as a marker for other cyclists to go and smash in the near future," he said.
