Random Tidbits

Not every innovation to come out of the war was designed to kill. Cellucotton - a by-product of processed sugar cane - was first developed during the war for use as field bandages, being more absorbent, cheaper and more plentiful than surgical cotton. It wasn't long before a few whip-smart nurses found that cellucotton made for a great disposable sanitary napkin, and in 1920 Kotex brought out its first commercial pad.

True Things

 Based on an ancient papyrus document, Egyptian women urinated on wheat and barley seeds to determine if they were pregnant or not, according to the Office of History in the National Institutes of Health. If wheat grew, it predicted a female baby. If barley grew, it predicted a male baby. The woman was not pregnant if nothing grew. Experimenting with this seed theory in 1963 proved it was accurate 70 percent of the time.

My Rambling Thoughts

Great Saturday. Fresh linens, cleaned interior of vehicle, enjoyed a walk in the forest…all before noon.

Looking at history is important in understanding today. I just read an article regarding Nixon following his defeat to JFK in 1960. As we all remember, it was a very close election. What I didn’t remember was the Nixon campaign and to a great extent Nixon himself, demanded a recount in 11 states. Some states refused, and those that did found that JFK actually was cheated out of a few votes in each state. So even if Biden wins and Trump contests the election, there will probably not be a change.

I have not been tested for Covid. I avoid crowds, I always wear a mask outside my home or car. I use sanitizer whenever I’m out and about on my once a week shopping. I haven’t had visitors or been to a restaurant since March. I did have a couple of techs in my house when my internet and cable were messed up. We wore masks, and I used wipes on everything they touched during their visit. I will take a test if I do something that exposes me. I don’t understand why Trump will not release his test results; I don’t understand why Lindsey Graham refuses to take a test before a debate against his Dem rival; and I don’t understand why Trump will not do a tele-debate. I wish someone would explain to me why Trump is holding a rally on the White House Grounds when science says he is probably still contagious. The only explanation I have is that he really does believe Darwin’s Theory about Survival of the Fittest and if the weaker supporters die from the virus…it is what it is as it will help get herd immunity.

 Big Bertha was a 48-ton howitzer used by the Germans in WWI. It was named after the wife of its designer Gustav Krupp. It could fire a 2,050-lb shell a distance of 9.3 miles. My Rambling Thoughts

Another nice day. So hard to believe it is fall.

Due to my blood issues, I have draws every so often. I dread those days as my veins don’t like to give up blood. Even super-hydrating doesn’t work anymore. Today was a draw day. The first tech checked my arms and said she would get a more experienced person. This lady was awesome. I learned about a technique that was easy…where she used a butterfly needle and a syringe. Sort of sucked the blood out, I guess. No pain, over quickly. Why haven’t I heard of this before?

When Biden was in Phoenix yesterday, he met with various tribal leaders and gave them his 15-page plan to improve life for Native Americans. President Trump has basically had no interaction with Native Americans in his entire term. He has, without consultation, shut down committees, pushed for mining and/or fracking on and/or near reservations, and basically refused to acknowledge the special relation between Native Nations and the US.

Stem cell research is highly controversial. Many times, scientists use stem cells from an aborted fetus for its research. Most Republicans are against stem cell research because of this. Reagan was against it, then he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Suddenly Nancy came out for more stem cell research for this debilitating disease. The treatment that Trump has been given was developed by using stem cell tissue from an aborted fetus. I wonder what Trump will be saying when he finds out, or it becomes widely known public knowledge?

President Trump has not yet contacted the Governor of Michigan after his FBI uncovered a plot to start a civil war and kidnap her. Not even a quick call to see what the US can do for her. Disgusted.
