My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

Sure hope everyone enjoyed Easter. Mine is going well.

This is a season of rebirth. I hope that the religious wars are stopped. It is so sad to see people dying in the name of any deity.

I am still thinking of a retort to the owner of my townhouse regarding the new rules & regulations. I should not come off as a whiner and still make a point.

I wish the judge and the politicians in trouble with the law would just let the process work itself out. Some of them are just digging a deeper hole.

Facts…

While dream interpretation may not be accurate, it is certainly not new. The Beatty Papyrus, written around 1350 B.C. and discovered at Thebes, is the oldest dream dictionary existing today. Can’t Never Could

Although this phrase is filled with negatives, it’s actually an example of positive thinking. This is like saying “you can’t get anything done without a positive attitude.” Or in other words, if you’re thinking about all the things you can’t do, you won’t be able to achieve much.

Southerners summed up this sentiment beautifully with the phrase: “Can’t never could!”

My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

Warm spring day with high clouds.

I took my car to the dealership for their free drive-thru car wash. My silver vehicle was covered with the results of the wind the other day. Now it is all shiny again.

After reviewing the new HOA Rules and Regulations, I expect some backlash from owners. 1. Each lot is restricted to use as a dwelling for residential use by one family only.  Note: the renters on one side of me are college grad students, and on the other side, a group of local workers who cause no problems…. 16. Each lot owner shall be responsible for ice and snow removal on their walkways in the front of their townhouse. The Association shall be responsible for snow removal of the common area walks and parking lot. Note: They have always done the stairs and sidewalks….19. The Association shall provide exterior maintenance for the improvements upon each lot so far as the painting, repair and replacement of roofs, fascia, soffits, siding, and trim. This does not include glass surfaces, window screens, rain gutters or any fixtures or additions made by the individual owner. Each owner shall be responsible for preventing ice dams and shall be responsible for ice and snow removal within its Lot, this includes regular maintenance of rain gutters.  Note: guess I’ll be cleaning my own gutters, on a ladder. I get most of the rules, but these seem a little odd.

Till The Cows Come Home

If you’re waiting till the cows come home, you’re waiting for a very long time. The phrase may even refer to things that will continue on forever – or at least until the foreseeable future. Southerners are no strangers to cattle, and they know that cows can take a very long time to wander home once they get lost. My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

Nice spring day.

Headed to Home Depot for some new furnace filters. Of course, found some other stuff I didn’t know I needed. I also stopped at the dealership to look at my ‘auto’ temp control. When on ‘auto’ it has its own plan for where the air will be shot into the car and there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason which one it chooses. Sometimes it shoots straight out, other times it comes from the floor, sometimes from the defroster. I did get a work around until they can figure out what is happening. It is not a big deal, just seems no one knows why. I got my new parking permits for my vehicle and a list of HOA rules. More later on the ‘rules’.

The Tennessee House voted to expel Dem. members who protested for stricter gun laws. They did this after the Speaker refused to recognize them and turned off their mics. The Republicans have a super majority. They expelled 2 young black Reps and let the white lady stay…by one vote, even though all three did the exact same thing. There must be more of an explanation.

The violence in Israel is horrific…three major religions (Christian, Jewish, Muslim) are all celebrating their religion’s holy days. Religious fighting makes no sense to me, especially when at all religions sacred sites. What can be done to stop this insanity.

Facts…

The Hawaiian islands are actually the peaks of the Hawaiian–Emperor seamount chain, a mostly undersea mountain range. As such, Mauna Kea, a volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii, is the highest point in the state of Hawaii and tallest mountain on Earth. It originates beneath the Pacific Ocean and rises over 33,500 feet from base to peak.

That Old Dog Won’t Hunt

When someone says “that old dog won’t hunt,” what they’re really saying is that your idea is terrible. This is a phrase used by people who feel cynical and doubtful towards things. “That dog won’t hunt” is like saying “that’s not going to work.”

This piece of slang obviously roots from the use of hunting dogs. When dogs get too old or frail, they can’t hunt anymore, quite as odd as southern sayings can be.

10. Wyoming

Here marks the start of the truly elite, best-of-the-best portion of this list. Everyone in the top quarter of the list has some singular, majestic facet that can make a case for being the best in the land.

Wyoming is so rich with beauty that even the Grand Tetons—quite possibly the single most dramatic vista in the country—somehow get overshadowed by Yellowstone National Park right next door. But if all you've ever seen of Wyoming is Jackson Hole and I-80, you're missing out on the other-worldly high plains outside of Laramie and Cheyenne, the ghostly rocks of Vedauwoo, the mountains of the Front Range (the very same mountains you saw on your trip to Denver), the Wind River Range, the Bighorns, and the brightest Milky Way views in the lower 48. That's not to mention Red Canyon, the Red Desert, Devils Tower, or the wildlife, including elk, moose, bison, and pronghorn populations that number in the hundreds of thousands. Few people venture into Wyoming to see just how the light shimmers off gold Aspen trees on a limitless mountain prairie—and folks in the Cowboy State like that just fine.
