Another very nice fall day.

For as long as I can remember, on the first Saturday after the season changes, I flip my mattress. I finally was able to do it today as I couldn’t stand long enough to do it on time. Feels good to get it finally be able to do it.

As of Friday, there were only 9 working days in Congress until a government shutdown. During all the previous shutdowns, Federal employees, considered non-essential, are sent home. Non-essential at both BIA and Oversees American Schools, those for embassy and military dependents, are sent home and students in dorms are sent home. Then after a day or two everyone is back at work, life goes on. All are paid as if it never happened.  As everyone knows this is not a normal time. A lengthy shutdown would hurt all Americans, but the crazies in the House don’t seem to care…after all they get paid anyway.

Another nice warm day. No complaints.

Headed out this morning for a much-needed haircut. When I called my stylist yesterday, he said he didn’t come in until 1p. Then he said but I will be here at 10ish. I asked if I could have 11am. He said sure. Nice guy earned a bigger tip.

I ran into a friend and her grandson from Tuba. Nice to catch up while we waited for our haircuts.

While scrolling though my emails I saw on the ‘Top 10 college towns in the US.’ Not surprised that Boulder, CO was on the list. An expensive but beautiful town for sure.

Still no speaker of the House. This is crazy.

Looks like Jim Jordon will push for temporary speaker until January. He says it’s only a pause. During that time, he hopes to garner more votes. I’m hoping for a New Year Miracle that will bring sanity back to the House.

I had a great lunch with Andy and Faith. La Fonda is the place. Good food. Great conversations. And I did it all without a cane.

People Believed We'd Have A Shorter Work Week By Now

Numerous predictions were made about the future six decades ago, but unfortunately, they did not materialize. Among these was the notion that by the 21st century, Americans would enjoy shorter workweeks of 30 hours and indulge in month-long vacations. Such a scenario would have been quite desirable.
