Thoughts for the day

It’s much cooler but still nice. There is a cool breeze. A nice way to celebrate my birthday...3/4 century +1

In today’s world it is becoming more and more difficult to determine who is telling the truth. I’m fed up with that. These lies are destroying our country, right before our eyes. For example, All the major news networks announce that USAID funds have been cancelled. Lots of consternation. Yesterday, Musk, while attending a cabinet meeting, says that yes, the funds were temporarily stopped on EBOLA but that it was a minor problem, and the funds were restored very quickly. He added mistakes will be made, but they were also corrected as soon as they are found. Today the major news networks and the USAID workers are stating everywhere that the Ebola funds have not been restored. For a democracy to survive the people must know where the truth is.

Forgotten American Heros…

Belle Boyd

Belle Boyd, a Confederate spy during the American Civil War, provided valuable intelligence to the Southern forces.

Her charm and wit enabled her to extract information from Union officers, which she relayed via secret messages. Boyd's espionage efforts were instrumental in several Confederate victories.

Despite facing arrest and imprisonment, she remained steadfast in her mission. Boyd’s story reflects the complexities of loyalty and espionage during turbulent times.

Her daring exploits and relentless dedication to her cause have made her a fascinating figure in Civil War history.

Common Misconceptions…

“George Washington never cut down a cherry tree, it was a story from Mason Weems that he wrote in a book after Washington’s death to profit off of his namesake.”
“Benjamin Franklin did not "invent" electricity, he simply expanded on what was currently known about it.”

Random Thoughts…

A health study conducted in 2010, found that not having friends has the same health risks as smoking a pack of cigarettes a day.

Thoughts for the day

Another nice day.

There was a shooting in Mutual help housing in Tuba City last night. The shooter was not captured. Over an abundance of caution, Tuba schools are closed today.

There is slowing becoming push-back to DOGE actions. Time will tell if they work.

Forgotten American Heros…

James Armistead Lafayette

James Armistead Lafayette was a pivotal spy during the American Revolutionary War. As an enslaved African American, he worked as a double agent, providing crucial intelligence to the American forces. His work significantly contributed to the American victory at the Battle of Yorktown.

After the war, he was granted freedom in recognition of his service. Lafayette's legacy underscores the critical role of espionage and intelligence during wartime, as well as the contributions of African Americans to the nation's founding.

Common Misconceptions…

“That the US Civil War was fought over states’ rights. Or the right to own slaves. It was fought over slavery. The confederates said so. Put it in writing. They were proud of doing god’s work. States rights is one of the excuses the k—n taught and got added to school curriculum. The confederates didn’t believe in states’ rights.”

Random Thoughts…

Benjamin Franklin coined the term battery during his experiments with electricity.

America’s population will be 60% over the age of 65 soon, so Hollywood is going to have to retool all their scripts and do a major national casting call soon for sexy old fogeys.

Thoughts for the day

A nice warm day.

I headed out to get new windshield wipers. The original manufacturer ones are 2 years old and not doing a good job. I was shocked when I found that the 3 wipers cost $74. That seems outrageous to me. I also discovered that trying to read the chart for the right size was impossible for me to understand and had to find a clerk to help me.

Roberta Flack gave us great music and will be missed after losing her battle with ALS at 88.

Germany’s election has a moderate winner, but the far-right party doubled its votes from a couple of years ago.  This is after the US administration met with the far-right party.

Shocking: At the UN, the US voted with Russia and China against a resolution that blamed Russia for the Ukraine invasion.

The office that has been around for decades and recently became known as DOGE just had 21 Federal employees resigning saying that they cannot participate in what the office is currently doing.

Forgotten American Heros…

Nellie Bly

Nellie Bly was a pioneering investigative journalist known for her daring exposé to the conditions of mental asylums. By feigning insanity, she gained entry to a facility and documented the inhumane treatment of patients.

Her tenacious reporting led to significant reforms and increased public awareness about mental health care.

Bly’s fearless approach to journalism broke new ground for women in the field. Her legacy as an advocate for social justice and journalistic excellence continues to inspire future generations.

Common Misconceptions…
