Thoughts for the day

Another partially cloudy day. Maybe a little moisture later today.

I got my new crown set this morning. All went well. He apologized again for having to do it twice.

About a week ago one of my colleagues from BIA summer workshops, Carmelita Beauvois passed away. Today her sister, Juanita, a colleague from Tuba, also passed. Condolences to the family of these two sisters.

Historic Figures who never existed…

Robin Hood©Louis Rhead on Wikimedia

What's not to love about Robin Hood, the famed legend who stole from the rich to give to the poor? Well, other than the fact that he may have only been a fictional character. While there have been records in the 13th century that could point to the Nottinghamshire hero—under a variation of names such as "Robehod" and "Rabunhod"—many fables place him in different eras and places. It remains unclear whether such a person ever roamed the earth, though a bandit fighting injustice surely makes for a great story.

Historic Figures who never existed…

Sun Tzu©663highland on Wikimedia

A military strategist who supposedly wrote The Art of War in the fifth century BCE, Sun Tzu is another hot-topic debate for scholars on whether the man existed at all. Like Homer, some believe that he was a fictional persona invented to serve as a single author of a great work—even though the text may have been written by several people and collected across time.

Thoughts for the day

A nice warm day.

I watched Good Night and Good Luck last night on CNN. It was a live play of the times around Edward R. Murrow during the McCarthy era. I’m a tad too young to remember those days, but I certainly remember studying them in school. It certainly was a good reminder of the courage in journalism by CBS, its reporters and its owners. I certainly hope that today’s journalists and news organizations have that same courage in today’s world.

Abrego Garcia is back in the US. This whole mess is about the constitutional right of Due Process. He may well be guilty of crimes, and he should pay for those crimes. It is about giving him his day in court to address the charges.

I always thought that the National Guard had to be asked for by the local, usually governor or mayor, authorities before the National Guard could be called in. Trump seems to have missed that lesson. The locals said they had everything under control. This seems more political theater than constitutional.

Historic Figures who never existed…

Pythagoras©Cmick25 on Wikimedia

If the name sounds familiar, it's probably because you've remembered it from the Pythagorean Theorem in your mathematics class. Yet, while Pythagoras was the mythical figure who popularized the formula, some believe that it existed even before him—if he even existed at all. There is very little that's known of him, and it's suspected that the mathematical proofs of his theorem were written by his followers. Even his appearance may be completely fictitious.

Thoughts for the day

A nice spring day.

I went out bright and early to get some groceries. Right now I’m have the hoses watering the trees at Andy & Faith’s place. They are out to sea on their Alaskan Cruise.

As my mom would say, I don’t trust him (Musk) any farther than I can throw him. He has ‘evolved’ too many times for my taste.

I’m hoping for a nice quiet weekend.

Historic Figures who never existed…

Homer©Bibi Saint-Pol on Wikimedia

Though Homer is often credited as the supposed author of the Odyssey and Iliad, there's no concrete evidence that points to him being a real person. Some scholars believe that Homer was invented out of a need to have an author for these epic works, but these poems may have actually been written by multiple writers and created earlier than initially thought.Ranoughts…
