Rambling Thoughts
I have heard of many kinds of storms…but never heard of a ‘heat storm’ but that is what so much of the SW is being told it is having. While I am uncomfortable with the 93° official temperature, and the 95° on my deck thermometer, it is so much worse in other places around here. We do have some clouds, but no rain, and Williams, about 30 miles away, had rain today…so maybe relief is ahead. The Williams rain dropped their temperature from 92 to 84 in about 30 minutes.Our HOA is one the most paranoid group of people in the nation. They keep issuing new parking permits for our parking lot, for fear that former tenants will return to our parking lot and use up spaces. Now they have started putting up new signs around the parking lot and in front of units that remind everyone that any vehicle parked without a proper permit will be towed and it will cost up to $150 to get the vehicle back, and it can be picked up after hours for another $80. In my 5 years here there has never been a time that there were no parking spaces available night or day close to my unit. Like most HOA’s they have signs that don’t allow commercial vehicles, large stand alone campers, trailers, noncurrent license plates, etc. One neighbor who has been here longer than I have had his car marked because he didn’t have the right parking sticker, and giving him 24 hours to get it moved or towed, or with the new sticker. Seems that all the new signs are an overreaction to a problem that doesn’t even exist.

Somewhat Useless Information
- An estimated 75% of the liquor that was smuggled into the U.S. during prohibition arrived along a route from the mouth of the Lake Erin and St. Claire Rivers. This was eventually nicknamed the "Windsor-Detroit Funnel."
- When Prohibition was repealed, beer was the first legal alcoholic drink made available on April 7, 1933. Other alcoholic beverages were made legal December 5, 1933.
- In 1904, North Dakota was a prohibition state but Montana wasn't. In Sidney, MO, a bar was built on the state line so one could buy a drink in Montana and drink it in North Dakota.
- Pilsner Urquell was the number one import beer in the U.S. before Prohibition.
- Al Capone, also known as Scarface, was the most famous figure during the Prohibition Era for his control of large portions of the Chicago underworld. Capone was making $10 million per year in revenue through the sales of bootleg alcohol, racketeering, gambling, and prostitution...tax-free.
- Templeton Rye Whiskey was said to be Al Capone's whiskey of choice.
