My Rambling Thoughts

We had a nice lunch at a restaurant here in Flag…the Toasted Owl. It’s been around a few years and I always found the name a little off-putting. While eating there, we asked the waitress about the name. The décor is cottage chic and there is every imaginable owl around the place…paintings, needlepoint, stuffed toys, plates, cups, and on and on. Turns out the owner was a teacher ‘somewhere near the Grand Canyon’ and was teaching Indian kids. She wore glasses and the kids all called her “owl”. (We got it as Indian humor). Then when she left and moved to Flagstaff she noticed that there were lots of bars and lots of people who were a little ‘toasted’ (drunk). She named it Toasted Owl. A cute story and much better than my version about eating owl meat that had been toasted.

Working on the Rez, we had more than our share of people who were ‘hiding’ or ‘running away’ from situations, usually dealing with domestic violence. The women figured that this was a good place to hide as the man would never think to look on a reservation. They were overwhelmingly correct. In those cases, our secretaries knew that anyone calling to leave a message or to speak to the person to not confirm or deny the person worked there. I am shocked and amazed again that this administration would have some knowledge of a serial abuser and still put him in a position of power.

Excited to watch the Opening Ceremonies tonight. I’ve skipped any internet machine stories, pics, etc. of the Opening. Next days will be spent watching the winter events. Being raised in Colorado, I enjoy all the winter events, but especially the skiing.

My Rambling Thoughts

Great weather day…is it really winter?

Got my shopping done quickly. It’s old people’s day at the grocery store so I saved 10% on everything I bought. I have the semi-bad habit of purchasing things I wouldn’t normally buy when it is Old People’s Day. Today is was 3 beautiful rib-eye steaks that were already on sale. I know I will enjoy them.

During most winters I wear sweaters over a t-shirt. This winter I haven’t needed sweaters for most days, so today I washed 11 sweaters and may pack most of them away. This has not been a winter of snow or cold.

The Focus Travel Club annual blowout is Saturday. I had planned on sneaking up there for a few days, but alas, I have an eye exam on Tuesday so will skip the trip. Can’t wait to hear about how the great trips coming up.

A military parade in DC. Really? 45 wanted to have tanks and military at his ascension to his throne back in January of 2017.  I have always dreamed that the US would have a better military parade than N. Korea, Russia, Nazi Germany…NOT

Saw a great cartoon today...2 men with lab coats, ringing a doorbell. When the lady answers the door they say "We are here to talk to you about the glory of science."
