My Rambling Thoughts

Dark clouds moving over the mountain. Looks like rain is on the way. Weatherman agrees. Just took a short walk.

If you are bored and are on Facebook, Ann, a fellow Focus Traveler, suggested this group: View from My Window. When you like the page, you get several beautiful pictures from others around the world right on your FB page everyday. Well worth it.

Tuba City is a very competitive little town. Always the 2nd most populous town on the Rez...they are a bad number one. During the recent lockdown weekend, they had the most violations (48). Not something to be proud of.

Lots of protesters have gotten in trouble: Unarmed Pipeline protesters were sprayed with cold water in below freezing temperatures, football players who knelled to protest police violence were shunned; Unarmed Natives demanding clean water were tear gassed then locked up. But protesters, who are armed, demanding the store reopen are not questioned, arrested, or anything. Who says there is no privilege?

Suddenly there is too much oil on the market and the oil companies are paying refiners to take it. What a mighty mess this is turning into.

Good news: The Maryland Governor is married to a S. Korean immigrant. He needed PPE's for his state. His wife called S. Korean businesses and found ½ million masks that have now arrived in Maryland. Two days later, Trump tweets that he is stopping all immigration to the US...that's probably green cards and work visas. Hmmmm. Wonder if that is legal?

My Rambling Thoughts

Another week of staying home begins...it is getting tiresome, but better than the alternative...no matter what the crazies are saying at their crazy protests. I have to say the daily video calls, IM's, and phone calls from friends are keeping me sane.

Last summer the Walgreen's Distribution Center in Flagstaff closed it's warehouse doors. My neighbor works for a distribution company (candy bars, snacks, and beer) that delivers to convenience stores around town. A few months ago they moved their operation into about ¼ of of the Walgreen's vacant property. Now the local hospital is taking over the other ¾ of the warehouse to set up beds for virus patients. My neighbor is rightly concerned.

The talk shows are getting pretty creative while at home. Multiple screens, a few glitches, but still interviewing people who are also at home. Good for them. I just hope this isn't the new normal.

If anyone saw the NBC story on the Navajo Rez during the virus...on the Today show this morning, the lady living in the trailer was one of the aides when I worked at Tuba Boarding. A nice lady who retired a few years ago. Interesting story line. I shared it on my FB account.

Fajitas. In 1984, Texas A&M lecturer Homero Recio traced fajita history back to the ranches of 1930s south and west Texas.

According to Recio, the Mexican cowboys, known as vaqueros, working in Texas often received throwaway scraps as part of their pay, including the cow's diaphragm. The diaphragm, which we now call a skirt steak, is covered with a tough membrane that allowed the vaqueros to grill it outdoors directly on open mesquite coals--the prototypical fajita.

My Rambling Thoughts

A decent Sunday...just a short walk today.

Watched One World last night on TV. A decent show with some great songs...and a very positive message. Thanks Lady Gaga for the production. As world wide event, some of the songs were in the artist's native language. The one from Mexico, which I only understood the gist of the song and the one from South Africa, which I didn't understand a word, were awesome.

For years I've watched protesters on TV from around the world. Most times they are wearing some kind of face mask to protect them from being identified. Now the far right protesters are not wearing masks to protest the government that said everyone, when outside, should wear a mask to protect against the virus. This is a crazy world right now. This seems to me like a new kind of stupid.
