Another warm day and another day of a breeze making it bearable. Hoping the monsoon returns very soon.

I’m still enjoying the Tokyo games. I’m not into the equestrian events, but the gymnastics is very enjoyable. The 50K walk race was interesting. I never did understand the yellow and red card stuff. Given the opportunity I wouldn’t walk 50K in that heat and humidity, let alone call it a race. Some parts of the walk were over 90° at 70% humidity. This was the last time it will be an Olympic event.

When a family member passes on the Navajo Rez, there are four nights of ‘meetings’ where friends and relatives meet, make plans for the funeral and burial, collect donations, share food and stories of the lost relative/friend. The funeral is then the next morning. In the case of our business tech, the final arrangements were not announced until the last night meeting. I got a text from a friend about 9:30 last night with the final arrangements. I then notified some friends who had asked. I would have had to leave Flagstaff at 6am to make the 9am funeral, due to daylight time on the Rez. I let them know I couldn’t make it. Since she was Miss Western Navajo in 1982, the service was at the Tuba Community Center to honor her accomplishments. Nice.

Dry heat has returned to our mountain town. The breeze is our only salvation. There is also a heavy haze from the Oregon/California fires. The weather guy says the monsoon will return sometime next week…can’t wait.

I watched some great diving and some good volleyball yesterday.

I had lunch with Andy and Faith at one of my favorite places. The cheesy bread is always the bomb. Good conversation and great food. Can’t beat that. Faith is settling into retirement nicely.

A great summer day. Slight breeze helping with the higher temperatures.

The USPS and our HOA have finally shaken hands and yesterday I got my first mailbox delivery in a week. All good now.

The Olympics keep giving great completion. So nice to see these young, and some not so young, athletes competing at top levels. It is so enjoyable to watch.

I got a call yesterday that the Business Tech I worked with at Tonalea School passed away yesterday. She had left Tonalea School about 15 years ago and was in her early 60’s. It was quite a shock. I’m waiting to find out what happened. Delores was born and raised in Tonalea. In her early 20’s she was Miss Western Navajo and competed for the Miss Navajo title. After her reign she started working at the school. She was kind, friendly, hardworking, and dedicated to her family. She had 2 adult children and a husband. Very unexpected.

I will never understand the trauma that police officers face. I also don’t understand why there is not a lot of mental health experts available to assist officers without putting a negative mark on their official record.  I will not understand how people who were there can continue to say it was just like any other day. Since the ‘incident’, 4 police officers who were there have committed suicide. These suicides were preventable if mental health services had been available immediately. I can’t help but wonder how much the denial of the actual incident led to the choice to commit suicide. So sad.
