Trivia

The most rare hair color in humans is red. Approximately 1-2 percent of humans in the world have red hair.

Lilith, the supposed first wife of Adam, is said to have had red hair. She was ultimately kicked out of the Garden of Eden because she refused to be subordinate to Adam.

Because redheads have thicker hair than people with other hair colors, they have fewer strands of hair. For example, while blondes have on average 140,000 hairs, redheads have approximately 90,000.

My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

Windy fall day…time for a laundry day. Two loads of clothes…will fold and put away later.

The Beijing Olympics are in the news. Will the US attend? Will the President or a delegate or no US dignitary attend? I followed the 1980 Olympics when the US refused to attend, and I attended the 1984 Olympics in LA when the USSR didn’t attend. I am appalled by the Chinese government human rights violations. I also know there are hundreds of young American athletes who have been training for years to attend the games in Beijing. I hope that the American athletes can compete on the field with athletes from all the Olympic countries. The US dignitaries would be missed, but it would allow the games to continue. If the best athletes, from any boycotting countries are kept out of the games, it will hurt the Olympic dream, but I seriously doubt that China will suddenly follow the UN Human Rights guidelines. Now I’m climbing down from my soapbox.

Trivia

A 15.2 oz. bottle of Minute Maid 100 percent Apple Juice contains 49 grams of sugar. This is about the same amount of sugar in 10 Oreos. While sugar occurs naturally in fruit, the body processes both types of sugar in the same way. One benefit of eating whole fruit is eating fiber, which is generally lost in the process of making juice.

According to brain scans, sugar is as addictive as cocaine.

Two hundred years ago, the average American ate only 2 pounds of sugar a year. In 1970, Americans ate 123 pounds of sugar per year. Today the average American consumes almost 152 pounds of sugar in one year. This is equal to 3 pounds (or 6 cups) of sugar consumed in one week.

My Sometimes-Long-Winded Thoughts

It’s a cool fall day. Wind is very chilly.

I had a quarterly doctor appointment this morning…all is well. I even lost a little weight since the last visit.

The Focus Travel Club website has been updated. Check out the trip to Ireland and of course the February Blowout’s return.

There are two trials that are taking the pulse of the nation…one is a kid who killed 2 and wounded one in Wisconsin. The other is two guys who killed one man. None of the defendants believed that law enforcement was doing a good job, so they brought rifles in a kind of vigilante justice. The kid has become a far-right wing hero. The outcome will be tenuous with either outcome. Innocent…he will become a hero to the right and encourage others to do the same, guilty…he will become a martyr to the far right. In the other case, an innocent black man is dead by white vigilantes. I pay taxes to ensure that we have professional law enforcement personnel to protect all the citizens. I do wish law enforcement had more training, especially in dealing with the mentally ill. I do not want private citizens carrying guns to decide who has broken the law and then kill that person. Our court system needs to be updated, not ignored.
