day. Nights are getting much cooler.
Immigration debate
continues. It has become a political football that no one can score with. Gov.
DeSantis (FL) has paid for illegal immigrants from Venezuela to be flown from
Texas to Martha’s Vineyard. I understand his point…border states are having a
hard time with the flow of illegals so he thinks sending them to sanctuary
cities will open the eyes of many. Looking at a map, one quickly realizes that
Florida is not a border state. It seems odd that FL state funds should be used
to move Venezuelans from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard with no plans as to what
happens next is very close to human trafficking with DeSantis nothing more than
a coyote. Those seeking asylum in the US are human beings and should be treated
with dignity. Time is well passed to reform our immigration policies. Congress:
DO YOUR JOB!
Our
discussion group meets Saturday. We are discussing ‘Outer Space’ and 3 of our
members are amateur astronomers…that should be a great discussion.

Volcanoes
Scientists
have described the giant pool of magma sitting just under surface of Yellowstone
National Park in Wyoming as a super volcano.
Exactly how
giant this super volcano is has been the subject of much speculation until
recently.
A team from
the University of Utah have told the American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting in
San Francisco that Yellowstone's magma chamber is 2.5 times larger than
previously thought.
It is an
underground cavern that measures some 55 miles by 20 miles and runs between 3
and 9 miles below the earth.
If it blows
it would wipe out America - and have enormous impacts on the rest of the world.
The term
"volcano" is from the Latin Volcanus or Vulcan, the Roman god of
fire. The Romans first used the term to describe Mt. Etna, a volcanic mountain
they believed was the forge of Vulcan.
The myth of
the lost city of Atlantis sinking beneath the waves may be based on the Greek
island of Santorini, of which portions collapsed into the sea after a large
volcanic eruption during the Bronze Age.
The most
dangerous volcano today is Popocatepetl, nicknamed El Popo, which is just 33
miles from Mexico City. El Popo is still active, sending thousands of tons of
gas and ash into the air each year.

Droit du seigneur
According to legend, lords had the right
to deflower their peasants’ wives on the women’s wedding night. While history
reports numerous examples of sexual violence on the part of feudal lords during
the Middle Ages, the droit du seigneur, as previously described, has never been
proven to exist. Serfs did have to pay their lord a tax to obtain the right to
marry. This 13th-century myth was likely used as a political weapon to
discredit lords.
