My allergies continue to be a pain in the …

This morning there were at least 3 short light rain showers.  Looks like they will continue.

I changed linens, cleaned the bathroom, and decided the rest of the day will just be a lazy day. I don’t want to be outside when the rain starts again.

My colleague/friend Mary is down in Phoenix. Her adult son, married with twins in the mid-teens, announced to his mom that he has hit his mid-life crisis. He bought a Tesla. He is still learning how to use it. Mary says the ride is very nice. It can drive itself, it can park itself, and with one command will pull out of a parking space and drive to the driver, stop and pick the driver up. It is an impressive vehicle, and as Mary said, ‘One doesn’t ask the price’.

Prisoners Arrived At Auschwitz Days After McDonald's Was Founded

McDonald's restaurant was founded by Richard and Maurice McDonald on May 15, 1940, in San Bernadino, California. While it started off as a regular hamburger stand, the company eventually grew to become one of the largest franchises in the world.

Just days after opening their business, on the other side of the world, far darker things were in the works. Five days later, the first prisoners would arrive at the Auschwitz concentration camp, one of the largest and deadliest sites of the Holocaust.

Just a little light rain on and off today.

For months the media has hyped how important it is to pass the debt ceiling and the many, many, many severe consequences if it is not passed. Last night the bill passed the senate, so they hype didn’t pan out. Time to move all the paranoia to the next media idea.

On Jun 1, 1924, American Indians were given the right to vote.

Women In Switzerland Got The Right To Vote When The U.S. Drove A Buggy On The Moon

Regardless that Switzerland is considered to be one of if not the most progressive nations in the world, they were a bit slow when it came to women's suffrage. Women attained this right in 1971, a whole 65 years after Finland became the first European country to do so.

By then, the United States had already landed on the moon and in 1971 were successfully driving a buggy on the surface. Yet, since then, Switzerland has made huge improvements regarding the gender gap and is ranked number 11 in the world, with the United States at 45.

Today’s Thoughts

All the clouds say moisture, weather guy says no moisture. As I look closely at the clouds, they are probably smoke from the nearby prescribed burns.

The Prescribed Burns Season has begun in Northern AZ. Today there are 3 such burns in the Flagstaff area. They are to clean up the forest before the fire season begins. I sure hope it works. These burns really change the air we breathe, and effects my allergies.

Today marks the 1868 signing of the Navajo Treaty. It freed the Navajo from captivity and allowed them to return to their homeland. It set up education and medical services for all Navajo. My career would have taken a much different path if not for this treaty.  

I’m happy that McCarthy was underestimated by me. I’m not a conservative, but this guy did something the media never expected.

I am impressed. Fire Season is returning soon. The ‘Ready, Set, Go plan has kept us informed for the past 3 fire seasons. Now they have divided the Flagstaff area into Zones to assist in notifying us of potential fire issues. According to the plan, the Ready, Set, Go program will now list Zones, instead of street boundaries, during fire season when a fire is nearby. I’m now in Zone 2208 and any Ready Set Go text messages will read: Ready: Zones 125-130, Set Zones: 131, and Go Zones: 132-135. This will make life much easier to deal with during the fire season. Very cool.

It Only Took Us 66 Years To Reach The Moon After The Wright Brothers First Took Flight

Orville and Wilbur Wright were two American brothers who are credited with designing, building, and flying the world's first successful motor-operated airplane. Their first successful flight was with the Wright Flyer on December 17, 1903.

Then, in July 1969, a mere 66 years later, Apollo 11 became the first spaceflight that landed people on the moon. Commander Neil Armstrong became the first person to set foot on the lunar surface, with Aldrin joining 19 minutes later.

 My vehicle was covered with golden pollen again this morning. Still having a runny nose and sinus drainage. Not fun.

About 8:30 this morning a group from some roofing company arrived and moved all the pine needles from the gutters. It looked like they were also checking the roofs for damage. Happy to have clean gutters.

I read an article that Rosalyn Carter, 95-years-old, has developed dementia and still helps out with care for her 98-year-old husband, Jimmy Carter. A sad ending for such a nice couple.

Nintendo Was Founded When Jack The Ripper Was Still On The Loose

To many, Nintendo is a modern video game company that brought us classics like Mario, Zelda, and the impressive Nintendo Switch, but that's not what it started as.

Initially, Nintendo made playing cards for a game called hanafuda. The company was founded back in 1889, a time when the notorious Jack the Ripper was still wreaking havoc in London. Today, the identity of the serial killer remains unknown, with the remains of the victim known as "The Pinchin Steet Torso" being discovered just weeks after Nintendo opened its doors.
