Monsoon has lowered the temps, finally. Already had one nice short shower this morning, more are expected this afternoon.

I started working with a Financial Manager about 10 years before I retired. My advisor helped me a lot. Her input allowed me to retire comfortably, travel the world and even pay cash for my recent vehicle purchase. She retired about 7 years ago. After leaving Flagstaff she married and then lost her husband to dementia. She called last week and is in Flag vacationing here for a month. We are having lunch tomorrow. It will be nice to catch up.

Lots of protests in Israel over stripping power from the Supreme Court  and giving that power to the Prime Minister. This really does not sound like democracy.

Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)

The United States, joined by the United Kingdom and several coalition forces, invaded Iraq in 2003 in the supposed belief that the country, led by Saddam Hussein, possessed an active weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) program. No stockpiles of WMDs or an active WMD program were ever found in Iraq.

Edward Snowden's Revelations

In 2013, Edward Snowden, a former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor, leaked classified documents that revealed the extent of the U.S. government's surveillance programs. Snowden's revelations sparked a global debate about government surveillance and privacy rights.

In the Ancient Olympics, athletes performed naked! This was to achieve closeness to the gods and also help detox their skin through sweating. In fact, the word “gymnastics” comes from the Ancient Greek words “gumnasía” (“athletic training, exercise”) and “gumnós” (“naked”).

Last night’s discussion was very good. All of us, before reading the article, thought that Economic Warfare was better than bullets and bombs. Now we all agree that is has an horrific effect on the common folk that this type of warfare needs to be examined. It is not helping the common people and is actually killing many.

Trojan horse

One of Antiquity’s most enduring myths is the story about the subterfuge that the Greeks used to enter Troy. They built a huge wooden horse and hid a select force of men inside. The Trojans, believing it was a victory trophy left by their defeated foe, pulled the horse into their city. After dark, the Greek force crept out of the horse and opened the gates for the rest of the Greek Army. Today, a malicious computer program that tricks users into running it is called a "Trojan horse."

 In case anyone is wondering, it is still over 90° every day here at 7000’

My dad was born this day in 1914. He had a good life, a loving wife, 2 spectacular kids, a good job, a great retirement and so much more. He lived to be 80 and is still missed today.

Our discussion group is meeting tonight to discuss Economic Warfare. The articles were informative as to how it effects governments, countries, and the everyday people. Like with all warfare, this usually hurts the ‘common folk’ more than the leaders or the government.

From the time I was growing up during Vietnam until today, I never understood a couple of things: Why do the common people have to suffer for the deeds leaders that they do not support. Knowing how the military trains its soldiers, how can people hate the soldiers who are just doing as they are told. Certainly the leaders should be punished.

Times are a changin’. Back in the day, the BIA would visit homes and bring youngsters to a boarding school where they would stay throughout the school year. Many boys would have traditional hair styles (the Navajo Bun) and dorms would cut their hair to a buzz cut. It was traumatic to say the least. Looking on Facebook, most of the Chapter Houses are providing free haircuts to school age kids. That is a huge shift in tradition, and kinda sad.

"Unsinkable!"

When RMS Titanic was launched on May 31, 1911, shipbuilders Harland and Wollf never claimed the liner was unsinkable. However, when White Star Line officials were informed that the liner was in trouble after striking an iceberg on April 15, 1912, during her maiden voyage, White Star Line Vice President P.A.S. Franklin allegedly announced: "We place absolute confidence in the Titanic. We believe the boat is unsinkable." More than 1,500 people died when the ship eventually went under.
