In the sport’s weekend…Colorado Buffs beat Kansas Jayhawks 36-14, Cardinals  Commanders, Broncos Raiders

The death toll in Marrakech, Morocco has risen to 2000+, so sad.

A creature with long arms and no face, a girl with supernatural powers, trails of blood and a boy trapped in an alternative dimension. Up your alley? Then check out Stranger Things, the science-fiction/horror 1980s-based TV series created, written and produced by 33-year-old twins Matt and Ross Duffer. The brothers cite Stephen King as a major influence; King’s It “made the biggest impact on us,” Matt Duffer told The Hollywood Reporter. Echoed Ross: “We just devoured his stuff when we were little.” King himself approves: After seeing the series premiere in 2016, he tweeted, “Watching Stranger Things is [like] watching Steve King's Greatest Hits. Today’s Thoughts

There was a nice monsoon in the late afternoon. It only lasted about 20 min. and helped our forest.

Nancy Pelosi says she is running again at 83. I can’t believe I’m saying this: People in politics need to fully retire from politics at 75 and enjoy their remaining years with family and friends.  

There are city, state, and Federal firefighters protecting our people and land. They don’t get rich with money but risk their lives every time they fight a fire. There is now a bill in Congress that would cut Federal firefighters by $20,000 a year. It is signed that would happen in the middle of one or our worst fire seasons on record. It makes no sense. Unless this has happened to you, you can’t understand the psychological damage as well as the financial damage this does each employee. When I was working for the BIA, our salary was cut so we lost our summer pay. It still bothers me at times and that was done to all BIA teachers in the 1980’s.

Lincoln Cottage

Statuesquely situated in Washington, D.C., the Lincoln Memorial is the most popular presidential memorial in the U.S., with 7.9 million visitors last year.

Just a few miles north, the Lincoln Cottage (30,000 visitors last year), the “summer White House” for Lincoln, wife Mary, and son Tad, sits amid 250 acres on the grounds of the Armed Forces Retirement Home. It is said that Lincoln, who referred to the White House as the ”iron cage,” did some of his best thinking at the Lincoln Cottage.

Partly cloudy but no moisture in the forecast. As I was writing this, my alerted that there would be rain in the next 30 minutes. I’ll see.

NYC has been complaining about the immigrants Texas and others are sending to their city.

Yesterday was another plea for help. School started in NYC Tuesday, and they have been inundated with those immigrant’s children enrolling in their schools. This means class sizes keep growing, they need more teachers, they need more space and most of the new immigrants have no English, meaning more ESL classes, certified ESL teachers… I remember when all the SE Asian refugee students came to the US as the war ended. California had to offer huge a bonus for anyone who could teach ESL.

Francis Short Pond is an environmental space with a large pond that is thriving with plants, waterfowl, and fish. During our major fires in the last few years, over 5,000 cubic yards of ash and debris found its way, during the floods that followed the fire. (That amount is about 1 million gallons.) That led to dying fish, waterfowl, and water plants. The city drained the pond to clean it up. They are still working on the cleanup; this is just an update. Lots of work for sure.

Humans of New York

When photographer Brandon Stanton launched his Humans of New York blog in 2010, his goal was to capture and catalog the lives of 10,000 Big Apple residents. Since then, the 33-year-old Marietta, Georgia, native has reinvigorated our American love of storytelling by sharing thousands of people’s stories, both stateside and abroad, with his more than 18 million Facebook followers. And Stanton is an artist with a cause: He’s helped raise $3.8 million for pediatric cancer research and $318,530 to support victims of 2012’s Hurricane Sandy.

The sound made by the Krakatoa volcanic eruption in 1883 was so loud it ruptured the eardrums of people 40 miles away, traveled around the world four times, and was clearly heard 3,000 miles away. That's like standing in New York and hearing a sound from San Francisco.
