Today’s Thoughts

So hard to believe it is late October…so warm and nice.

Looks like Jim Jordon will push for temporary speaker until January. He says it’s only a pause. During that time, he hopes to garner more votes. I’m hoping for a New Year Miracle that will bring sanity back to the House.

I had a great lunch with Andy and Faith. La Fonda is the place. Good food. Great conversations. And I did it all without a cane.

HaPpY BiRtHdAy to my younger brother.

Enjoy

People Believed We'd Have A Shorter Work Week By Now

Numerous predictions were made about the future six decades ago, but unfortunately, they did not materialize. Among these was the notion that by the 21st century, Americans would enjoy shorter workweeks of 30 hours and indulge in month-long vacations. Such a scenario would have been quite desirable.

Random Trivia…

Count Dracula was inspired by a real person. The titular Count was based on none other than history’s own Vlad the Impaler. As the monarch of Wallachia, a Romanian region of Transylvania, Vlad soon made a fearsome reputation for himself by killing and impaling the still-twitching bodies of his enemies on long sticks which he planted outside his castle.

The World War II army of the US is the biggest army in history. Due in part to the surge of American patriotism and because of conscription, the US Army numbered 12,000,000 soldiers by the end of the war in 1945.Check out...

Today’s Thoughts

Another nice fall day. Much better, doing stairs without a cane being used.

My urologist was pleased with my PSA numbers. I will continue a shot every three months for a while, just to be sure the numbers stay down. Good news.

Ken Burn’s “American Buffalo” is exceptional. If you get a chance, it’s on PBS. Well worth a watch.

Between the seeming endless votes in the House, and the on-going war in Gaza, the news is getting difficult to watch. Pick a damn speaker and have a cease-fire sounds so easy.

Protest grow around embassies around Pro-Palestinian countries. Frightening.

Enjoy

Today’s Thoughts

Another nice fall day.

Biden is headed to Israel, Egypt, and Jordan in attempt to release the hostages. Meanwhile a bomb killed 200 in a hospital in Gaza. Neither side is claiming the bombing. While Biden was preparing, Jordan cancelled the meeting with Jordan’s President as they believe Israel is to blame for the bombing.

Today’s second vote will be happening soon for a Speaker. Republican Jordan and Democrat Jefferies are on the ballot. With the horrific killings in Ukraine and Israel/Gaza, this is the time for the House to unite and a pick a leader. As a teacher, I rarely would cancel recess if the class was misbehaving. Probably a good time to try that.

When my mother passed, I inherited her diamond ring…it is over 100 years old and was given to my grandmother by her fiancé. My mother wore it for almost 60 years. I had it reset and added some turquoise. When in the Peru rainforest I lost one piece of the turquoise. In early August, I took it to the jewelry store that had made it to get the turquoise replaced. I was excited that their jeweler was Navajo. He has been looking for the right turquoise. Today I picked the piece to use and it will be ready in 3 weeks. Excited.

Enjoy

The Vikings under Leif Eriksson settled Newfoundland as well as discovering and settling Labrador further north in Canada.

The Colosseum was originally clad entirely in marble. When you visit or see the Colosseum these days, you’ll notice how the stone exterior appears to be covered in pockmarks all across its surface. The reason for the pockmarks is, after the fall of Rome, the city was looted and pillaged by the Goths. They took all of the marble from the Colosseum and stripped it down to its bare stone setting.
