MY FREE RAMBLING THOUGHTS

Our snow stopped and the sun was even out for a few minutes today. Roads cleared up, traffic was moving again. Even though we live in snow country, many people still don’t know how to drive in the weather. Both interstates were closed on and off for the past few days as cars, trucks, and big rigs all drove too fast and ended up spinning out, running off the road, or crashing into another vehicle. As a retired person, I just don’t drive when weather is bad. I am quite competent and would go somewhere if it were necessary, but don’t like always looking out for the other guy. I did go out today and roads were fine.

Libya is certainly no Egypt. Some military are leaving the country rather than fire on their people. Others stay and use high powered weapons on civilians. It is a real mess over there as the world watches. Britain stepped up today and condemned the bloodshed. No one knows how long this will last, but as long as Col. G is in charge, bloodshed will continue until the protesters are stopped. He and his son have chosen to tell the Libyans that the protesters are just ‘drunks’ and ‘mentally ill’ people. I doubt that many inside the country believe that anymore than those in the rest of the world.

DID YOU KNOW THAT…
Want to lower the fat content of your ground beef? After browning it in the skillet, wad up about four paper towels and place them in the skillet. Use your spatula to dab up all of the grease from the ground beef and then discard the greasy paper towels. You won't loose any ground beef this way while attempting to strain it and won't be left with grease to dispose of.

To clean your toilet simply drop in two Alika-seltzer tablets wait about 20 minutes then clean with the toilet brush, flush, and you have a sparkling toilet.

SOMEWHAT USELESS INFORMATION… Vegas

Major development of casinos in the Las Vegas area began in the early 1940's, following the legalization of gambling in 1931. Most of the original large casinos were managed or at least funded under mob figures such as Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel.

There are approximately 1,700 licensed gambling locations in Las Vegas.

UNUSUAL NEWS ITEM… Tokyo, Japan
A huge spider crab has been dubbed Crab Kong by staff at a UK aquarium, after being recognized as the biggest in captivity.
The monster from the deep - who measures 3m across and weighs 15kg [31.1 lbs] - was originally caught in Japan by fishermen working from Suraga Bay, south-west of Tokyo.
However, rather than sell him to a local restaurant, the fishermen called UK-based biologist Robin James, who'd visited the village just weeks earlier.
He then arranged for the colossal crustacean to be spared the saucepan and be shipped to the Sea Life Centre in Weymouth. To go on show you understand, not to go on the menu.
Staff say Crab Kong is probably about 40-years-old and that he will be the temporary star of an exhibit at the Dorset attraction, before he's moved to a new permanent home in Munich.
They added that they expect him to be a even bigger draw than the previous biggest crab, Crabzilla.

A LITTLE LAUGH…
It's tough enough selling a home nowadays. Don't make the mistakes that turned off these commenters on the City Room blog of The New York Times:
"It was a good house, well-maintained. But the bed with the person in it was off-putting."
"The family dog, long departed, was stuffed and standing next to the fireplace. RIP Sparky."
"The main distraction was dirt. Although there was the tiny child who proudly showed us the refrigerator full of 'Daddy's beer' just outside an upstairs bedroom."
