Free Rambling Thoughts…
A rainy day with lots of thunder and lightning. Fall is certainly in the air here. My downstairs windows are all closed, the upstairs windows are open about an inch. Not time for the furnace quite yet.
When I retired, I bought a cheap clock radio for my workroom. That way I could listen to NPR while on the computer without wasting bandwidth and slowing down my computer. Well yesterday, the light on the digital clock died. I thought there might be a brightness control, but alas, no such luck. I have a CD player/radio that I moved from the downstairs and am back in business. To make it even better, this one has a remote, so I can program stations and not have to use that silly old dial to find the station.
The weatherman sez it’s going to be wet here all weekend. I’m ready. I’ve got a lot to do inside…mostly in the various closets. So much stuff I never use but haven’t shared with others. Think it’s about time to help out Big Brothers and Big Sisters. This is the first place I have ever lived that doesn’t have a linen closet. So all my bedding is taking up bedroom closet space and they aren’t any too big. There must be a better way to store that stuff.

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The expense of replacing stolen signs popular with area vandals will not result in a name change for Stoner Avenue -- at least not immediately.
Minnesota Public Radio reports that the Bemidji City Council has put on hold plans to change the name of the street.
The situation is one that is easy to chuckle at, but the city's problem is a serious one in tight financial times. Some 15 street signs along Stoner Avenue disappear each year and city officials estimate they've probably spent close to $20,000 replacing the signs over the past decade.
Stoner, of course, is a popular term used to describe a drug-using slacker, and the culprits are probably teens who take the signs to hang in their bedrooms or garages.
At a public hearing this week Stoner Avenue residents convinced council members to table the issue, complaining that changing the name would be a hassle for the more than 40 property owners who live along the street.
Those residents would be forced to update their driver’s license and other important documents and databases.
The city agreed to explore options to make the signs less vulnerable to theft, including using different types of screws or using taller sign posts.
Some even support using video cameras to deter would-be sign thieves.
Stoner Avenue is named for Marcus Stoner, who surveyed much of the Bemidji area beginning in the late 1800s. Stoner was Bemidji's first city engineer and Beltrami County surveyor.

Little Pete came home from the playground with a bloody nose, black eye, and torn clothing. It was obvious he’d been in a bad fight and lost. While his father was patching him up, he asked his son what happened.
“Well, Dad,” said Pete, “ I challenged Larry to a duel. And, you know, I gave him his choice of weapons.”
“Uh-huh,” said the father, “that seems fair.”
“I know, but I never thought he’d choose his sister!”
