Tomorrow
is a medical day. I meet with my allergist at 8:30 where I will be begging for
some new meds for my angioedema. Better yet, a reason for the swelling that I
can control or just stop. Then off for a blood draw. I had planned to do the
blood draw today, but when I grabbed the paperwork this morning I found out I
needed a 14 hour fast and I had thought it was a 10 hr fast. Oh well, ready
now. All the blood tests are just normal annual tests. Then I will drop off my
scripts for my Ethiopia trip and pick them up in the afternoon.
My
sister-in-law just began a very busy month long business trip…NYC to San
Francisco for a couple of days, then a couple of weeks in China, a week and a
half in Australia, a week in Chile, and finally back to NYC. Sounds to me like
a great tourist trip…sounds pretty hectic as a business trip. The one good
thing is that when she contracts her trips she will only fly business class.
That makes it a little more bearable.
Our
local politics will be heating up soon. Three council seats are up for election
and the mayor’s seat. Our current mayor said she isn’t running. We have a
primary in March, then the final election in May. In these tough economic times,
it will be heated, I’m sure. Petitions begin next Monday.

It's also what an Irish coroner recently concluded about the death of Michael
Faherty, a 76-year-old Irishman who burned to death in his home in December
2010. There were scorch marks above and below the body, but no evidence of any
gasoline, kerosene, or other accelerant. The coroner, Ciaran McLoughlin,
reported: "This fire was thoroughly investigated and I'm left with the
conclusion that this fits into the category of spontaneous human combustion,
for which there is no adequate explanation."

:True Cross Day
The
Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church lights a large bonfire in
Maskal Square, Addis Ababa's greatest open arena, and smaller bonfires are lit
by individuals and local parishes throughout the country. Thousands attend the
colorful and vibrant ceremony of religious chanting around the bonfire in
Maskal Square, which owes its name to the ceremony, "maskal" meaning
in Ge'ez "cross". According to tradition, the bonfire commemorates
how Queen Helena, as legend has it, found with the smoke of a bonfire, where to
search for the true cross in Jerusalem, or how, by a series of bonfires, she
signaled to her son Constantine in Constantinople her success in finding it.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet
sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned
that every site has mistakes and sadly once out the information is out there,
many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events
occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be
totally accurate.
