Free Rambling Thoughts…   

My presentation went very well last night. By the time I got home, it was too late for a blog. While waiting for everyone to arrive, we had an interesting discussion about the Middle East. Nancy, who lived in Syria for several years, made an interesting and valuable point. Most of these countries were run for decades by dictators that controlled most aspects of life in their country. Also the US government, has for decades, supported these dictators with money. The youth of these countries only know life under governmental control until the ‘Arab Spring’ began. So when a film is made in the US that is so anti-Muslim, it is almost impossible for them to believe that the US government is not, at least placidly in agreement with its content. No film would ever be made in their country that the government didn’t approve of. It is all they know.

My presentation was appreciated and we had good discussion that exemplified many of my cultural differences between Mass Culture in the US and traditional Native American beliefs about learning, ‘wealth’, environment, and other areas. It was a good time.

Yeah, It Really Happened…

AUSTIN, Texas - Thousands of registered voters in Texas are getting letters from elections officials, asking for verification they are not dead. Nearly 77,000 letters, referred to as notices of examination, were sent to comply with a 2011 state law requiring the Texas Secretary of State's office to cross-reference voter rolls with the massive Social Security Administration's death master file to determine whether an eligible voter is deceased, the Austin (Texas) American-Statesman reported Thursday. Use of the federal death file and its 89 million entries has resulted in a large number of letters mailed, said Tina Morton, Travis County tax assessor-collector and voter registrar. The letters were sent out two months before the presidential election because of delays caused by redistricting issues, said Rich Parsons, the Secretary of State office's director of communications. "The primary was delayed, as were several deadlines related to the primary election. This was the first window of opportunity we have had to do this," he said. Still-living voters have 30 days to complete and return forms accompanying the letters, but county clerks are encouraging voters

          following the trail of Indians who have been marauding near Sheridan City. As

          700 Indians. The soldiers move to an island which is 125 yards long by fifty

The prongs on a fork. In the cutlery triumvirate of knife, fork and spoon, the knife came first, developed from implements of sharp-edged flint. As late as the 16th century, forks were thought to be an affectation, and people who dropped food while trying to use a fork for eating were ridiculed.
