Free Rambling Thoughts
First day of spring started out overcast but nice, then the wind picked up. Still OK but not a nice spring day as hoped for. Oh well.

So our President is visiting Israel. Too much to hope for that the other side would be happy. No matter what he does, he is wrong in their view. Oh well.

My brother sent me a gift card to a cool travel store. I looked and looked and finally decided on a pair of pants and a shirt. Called and found out they prefer that you order on line when using a gift card. So I did. I went a little over the amount so used my CC for the extra. Everything went through, except the gift card. The CC was charged the full amount. I called back and the guy sent a credit to the CC and replaced the order. Fine, it will take a couple of days for all to get straightened out. Turns out the gift card had 3 letters and 5 numbers and are case sensitive. Nothing on the site says that, but if you use caps then a pop up tells you the gift card was accepted. Since I wasn’t looking for a pop up…duh. The guy was really nice and I know it will get straightened out, just about the time my pants and shirt arrive. Oh well.

Ridiculous Band Names in Rock History
Nickelback
The story:
Lead singer Chad Kroeger was having trouble coming up with a name, and so approached his brother, who worked at a Starbucks. Coffee was $1.95, which meant every customer who paid two bucks got-waiiiit for it-a nickel back.
Why it's ridiculous:
Asking cashiers at franchise coffee shops for career advice can only end in tragedy. (Kroeger suffered similar woes after getting a Wal-Mart greeter to do his taxes for him, resulting in the repossession of his house.) If you walk up to the cashier behind a Starbucks counter and, instead of ordering a Tall Sumatran, ask them to name your crappy band, odds are you're going to get something giving-people-change-for-coffee-based.

The Alan Parsons Project
The story:
Founder Alan Parsons started a "project" with other "project administration personnel" to "drill down" on this whole "music" thing he'd heard so much about. So he named it that.
Why it's ridiculous:
It's one thing to just name your band after yourself, like ego cases Dave Matthews and Ben Folds did. But once you've made the choice to be lazy, you're not allowed to get all clever with it afterwards. Besides, it makes the band sound like the sort of after-school activity all the kids who didn't make the basketball team got stuck with. "Today, class, we're going to build Alan Parsons... from common household items!"
Ok, then?

Joke-of-the-day
A man whose wife was pregnant couldn't bear to be in the delivery room at the time of the birth.
So he thought he'd ring up later to see if it had come yet.
He rang up and the nurse said "it's a girl but there’s another one on the way"
He rang again later and the nurse said "it's another girl but there's another coming"
He rang once more and the nurse said " it's a boy but there's another coming"
He couldn't stand it anymore so he went to the pub and got drunk.
An hour later he was really nervous. He was dialing the hospital, hands shaking, and accidently dialed the sports line. he asked " how many did we get mate" the person said "198 all out.... and the last one was a duck"

Yeah, It Really Happened
WINDSOR, Mo. - A Missouri mayor said he was shocked when a speaker at an aldermanic meeting revealed public works employees had been told to bring toilet paper from home.
Windsor Mayor Justin Brown said he was shocked when Nancy Dunbar spoke at last week's meeting and suggested a fundraiser to stop the policy of requiring the city's 10 public works employees, who are all male, to bring their own toilet paper to work, KCTV, Kansas City, Mo., reported. "I was just really incredulous that this was a topic to be brought up at a City Hall meeting, much less have any truth to it," Brown said. "The No. 1 emotion is embarrassment. We have a lot of good things going on in our little town, and this is the topic."
Dunbar said Brown wasn't the only one shocked by the revelation. "The mayor was like, 'What are you talking about?' Because the mayor had no idea. The aldermen had no idea. I mean mouths just dropped," Dunbar said.
Dunbar said the policy came from an edict handed down by city administrator Sandra Underwood. However, Underwood said the order came from the head of Public Works and she was not involved. Brown said toilet paper is now being provided for the men. "We are always looking for ways to save money," Brown said. "I'm just fearful that this finally hit a fever pitch and this is where it got ridiculous."
Somewhat Useless Information
  • "Vernal" is Latin for "spring" and "equinox" is Latin for "equal night."
  • There are two equinoxes every year: vernal and autumnal. Those two days are the only times during the year when the sunrise is due east and the sunset is due west.
  • Ancient Egyptians built the Great Sphinx to point directly East toward the sunrise on the vernal equinox.
  • Stonehenge in England also marks the position of the rising sun on the vernal equinox.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site has mistakes and sadly once out the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
