 Today’s Birthdays:
How many can you identify?…answers in Today’s Birthdays

My Free Rambling Thoughts
Nice day started out…planned on getting my hair cut but my haircut lady isn’t working until Friday. Then I checked the news and was shocked to hear about the DC killings. When, if ever, are we going to figure out a way to keep guns out of the hands of mentally deranged people? We now live in such horrific times…and we remain so unprepared.

And after we figure that out…let’s figure out how to keep Twitter and other social media out of the hands of racists. I am not now, nor ever have been…except one year when one of my high school cheerleaders was in the contest…been a fan of Miss America. So I didn’t watch it when the top two were an Asian and an India-Indian. Then the internet machine came all upset that a cookie cutter white girl didn’t win. The winner took it in stride, but I’m sure the sickening comments have made their way around the world. Such a sad picture for others to see of Americans.

It’s clouding up again here in Flag after a great day…so will probably get our daily rain later tonight. I still can’t believe how green our city has become. I even have an 8” mushroom growing by the fence near my deck. WOW!

Brain Teasers
Once again, the Booker Prize panel is sitting. And again an excerpt from a book has some key words missing. Can you fill in the blanks so the story makes sense and also spot the connection between them?

Unusual Fact of the Day
Felines have thirty-two muscles in each ear which control intricate movements for directional hearing.
Animals with the strongest jaws…
Nile Crocodile 5000 psi
In the National Geographic experiment the Nile Croc actually tested lower than the Saltwater Croc, but most other sources have the Nile Croc at 5000 psi. Nile Crocs tend to be about the same size as Saltwater Crocs and thus their bite seems to be at the same range. The two are interchangeable when it comes to the placing on this list and the numbers will vary due to the difficulty in measuring the bites of each and getting the right sized croc to measure.
Nile crocs eat mainly fish but like their cousins, they will attack anything dumb enough to cross its path. This includes zebras, birds and even small hippos.
Joke-of-the-day
A wife was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her husband.
Suddenly, her husband burst into the kitchen. 'Careful,' he said, 'CAREFUL! Put in some more butter! Oh my gosh! You're cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW! We need more butter. Oh my gosh! WHERE are we going to get MORE BUTTER? They're going to STICK! Careful. CAREFUL! I said be CAREFUL! You NEVER listen to me when you're cooking! Never! Turn them! Hurry up!
Are you CRAZY? Have you LOST your mind? Don't forget to salt them. You know you always forget to salt them. Use the salt. USE THE SALT! THE SALT!'
The wife stared at him. 'What in the world is wrong with you? You think I don't know how to fry a couple of eggs?'
The husband calmly replied, 'I just wanted to show you what it feels like when I'm driving.'

Yeah, It Really Happened
HONOLULU - A Hawaiian woman whose last name is 35 letters long said the state has told her to shorten it to fit on a state-issued ID card. Janice "Lokelani" Keihanaikukauakahihuliheekahaunaele said she has been carrying both her driver's license and her state ID for the past 20 years because her driver's license could only fit her last name, and even that was missing its final letter, KHON-TV, Honolulu, reported Thursday. She said the state ID was able to fit her full name. "The governor's office went back into the computer department and they found a way to put our name on our state ID," Keihanaikukauakahihuliheekahaunaele said. However, she said her state ID expired in May, and the replacement issued to her by the state has the same name problem as the driver's license. Keihanaikukauakahihuliheekahaunaele said county officials told her to use her maiden name or shorten her last name. However, she said the name is all she has left of her late husband. Department of Transportation spokeswoman Caroline Sluyter said the issue is being looked at by officials. "We have been made aware of that issue and I know right now they are working to extend that limit to, I believe, 40 characters so that issue can be resolved," the spokeswoman said.
Somewhat Useless Information
  • The first flight attendant was actually a man. A German named Mr. Heinrich Kubis was the world's first flight attendant in 1912.
  • The first female attendant was a registered nurse named Ellen Church in 1930. Nurses were the preferred flight attendants in this time.
  • In the 1960s you could not just be a flight attendant. You had to pass the height, weight, marital status test and not forgetting the age limitation. In this order, you had to be at least 5-foot-2, weigh less than 130 pounds, be single and childless and retire at the ripe old age of 32 years.
  • Flight attendants can be viewed as undercover agents. Many flight attendants work in collaboration with the police to curtail human trafficking. Flight attendants are trained on what to look for in people they suspect and how to respond to such situations.
  • A newbie flight attendant is on six months probation and is limited to wearing slightly longer skirts than seniors. After probation, they can hem their skirts to the desired length.
  • A yearly training program does the world the benefit of trimming any flight attendants who cannot pass it. There is a possibility it might involve checking for height violators or emergency exit windows non-fits.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site has mistakes and sadly once out the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
