My Free Rambling Thoughts
Week ended with a good annual checkup from my doctor. Can’t beat that.

Interesting article in our local paper that people are becoming more wimpy about winter weather…staying inside more, not traveling as much during cold weather…so glad I don’t have to worry about getting to work or doing much on our really cold winter days. When I was working, several on my staff in Tuba had to commute from Flag everyday(75 miles one way)…their choice. Some days they had to leave about 4am, before the snow plows. While I worried about them getting to work safely, I had to remind myself that it was their choice not to live in Tuba. I encouraged them to stay with someone in Tuba when the weather was bad. Some did, some didn’t. Several had kids in school in Flagstaff and really didn’t have a choice.

I talked to Cheryl today about her credit union hassle after shopping at Target. Her phone got disconnected because the payment was refused…she worked that out quickly. Seems that if you are a month late with a payment, they give you a warning, but it your auto payment is rejected, the phone is turned off. Now she is checking about her SS and retirement auto deposit. She was glad I had called because she hadn’t even thought about that, and the credit union hadn’t told her it might be a problem…sure hope it works out quickly.

Something to Ponder in your free time…
  • Why do we sing "Take me out to the ball game" when we are already there?
  • Why are they called "stands" when they are made for sitting?

Unusual Fact of the Day

Joke-of-the-day
Way to keep healthy level of insanity in the workplace
1. Page yourself over the intercom. (Don't disguise your voice.)
2. Find out where your boss shops and buy exactly the same outfits. Always wear them one day after your boss does. (This is especially effective if your boss is a different gender than you are.)
3. While sitting at your desk, soak your fingers in "Palmolive."
4. Put up mosquito netting around your cubicle.
5. Every time someone asks you to do something, ask them if they want fries with that.
6. Put your garbage can on your desk. Label it "IN."
7. Determine how many cups of coffee are "too many."
8. Put decaf in the coffeemaker for 3 weeks. Once everyone has gotten over their caffeine addictions, switch to espresso.
9. In the memo field of all your checks, write "for sexual favors."
10. If you have a glass eye, tap on it occasionally with your pen while talking to others.
11. When driving colleagues around insist on keeping your car windshield wipers running in all weather conditions "to keep 'em tuned up."
12. Reply to everything someone says with "that's what YOU think?"
13. While making presentations, occasionally bob your head like a Parakeet.
14. Sit in the parking lot at lunchtime pointing a hair dryer at passing cars to see if they slow down.
15. Ask your co-workers mysterious questions and then scribble their answers in a notebook. Mutter something about "psychological profiles".

Yeah, It Really Happened
HACKENSACK, N.J. - A New Jersey smoke shop is angering some locals who say it's name, the Fu King Smoke Shop, contains a thinly veiled profanity. Michelle Tavares, president of the Parent Teacher Association at the Fairmount School a block from the Hackensack store, said the name is inappropriate for children, the Record of Hackensack reported Monday. "It's almost like it's an insult to the intelligence of our community. Do you really think we don't know what that is supposed to mean? That our children don't know what that means?" Tavares said. Other parents and residents have said they want city officials to force store owner Robert Reichert to remove the Fu King sign from outside of the store, which has yet to officially open. Reichert said the sign is not meant to be profane. He said Fu is a Chinese word meaning wealth or luck. "There is a meaning behind it," Reichert said. "It's not just words thrown up on the canvas. If they're offended by reading it, then it's the way their mind is looking at it." Reichert said the city gave him permission to put up the sign, but a city zoning official disputed his claim and has issued him a summons. The store owner said he will fight the summons in court.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site has mistakes and sadly once out the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
