Rambling Thoughts
I’m getting really tired of the wind here in Flag. Today the gusts
were the strongest we have had all year. Somehow all that wind just drains me
out.
It is sadly fire season…yesterday a fire near Crystal, on the
Navajo Rez started and is now 11,000 acres of mountainous county inhabited by
many Navajo Families. Now I just saw another fire in Oak Creek Canyon caused by
a downed power line. Both areas have high winds and low humidity…so neither is
going to be good.

Fact of the Day
The Kansas City Chiefs, the professional football team, were named
after the mayor of Kansas City. Mayor H. Roe Bartle, nicknamed Chief, was
responsible for getting the owner, Lamar Hunt, to move the Dallas Texans to
Kansas City in 1963.
Presidential
Fun Facts…
Franklin
Pierce: Graduated Bowdoin College (1824). In 1853 the Gadsden Purchase
settled boundary disputes with Mexico. In 1854 the Kansas Nebraska Act
increased the conflict between pro- and anti-slavery settlers and required the
introduction of federal troops into Kansas in an effort to end the fighting.
Because of religious considerations Pierce affirmed rather than swore the
Presidential Oath of Office. He gave his inaugural address from memory, without
the aid of notes. He installed the first central heating system in the White
House.

Pen Names
of famous authors…
Ruth Rendell--Pen name: Barbara Vine
The prolific English mystery writer Ruth Rendell took up her pen name in 1986. Under that name, she released 14 novels. As the author once explained to the National Post, the two distinct bylines offered the opportunity to hone two distinct voices. The author also said she used Vine to explore specific topics, like the evolution of morality.

The Moon
It might sound sad to all lunatics in the world, but the moon is
moving away from the earth. It can also be said that very soon there might be
no moon. Not all scientists agree to this fact which is the reason for which we
should not give up our hopes yet.
Joke-of-the-day
A young man
bought an expensive piece of jewelry as a present for his girlfriend. “Don’t
you want her name engraved on it?” asked the clerk. The young man thought for a
moment, and then, ever the realistic, steadfastly replied, “No, just engrave
it: To My One and Only Love. That way, if we break up and she throws it back to
me in anger, I can use it again.”

ILLUSTRATION TIP
To check an
illustration for "errors" in a computer illustration program use the
reflect tool. For example: I frequently draw "big hair' on the right side
of a subject, flipping the drawing exposes this nicely! (If you're drawing on
paper, flip it around and hold it up to the light.)
Yeah, It
Really Happened
A Florida man was arrested on a prostitution charge after he
allegedly offered to exchange some green for sex during a reverse prostitution
sting by the Daytona Beach Police Department.
The thing is, the only green that Alonzo Liverman had was a salad
from Applebee's.The 29-year-old wasn't the only one to get busted and the DBPD arrested nine other men, including former Florida State basketball player Tim Pickett.
During an encounter with an undercover female officer, Liverman replied "I got a salad" after she said, "I'm hungry, you got food?"
According to the arrest report, the officer offered to give Liverman a "blow job for a salad." Liverman consented to the deal and asked, "You ready to go?"
Liverman was sentenced to two days in jail and fined $500 after pleading no contest to the misdemeanor charge.

Have
you ever given a nickname? Did you know that nicknames’ existance dates back to
1303? What’s the etymology of the word?
The
original word was ‘ekename’ back to 1303 meaning ‘additional name deriving from
the Old English phrase eaca “an increase”, related to eacian “to increase”.By the fifteenth century ‘ekename’ had been renamed to ‘nekename’ and later on to ‘nickname’ and although the spelling changed, the meaning and pronunciation remained the same.

Did you know that there is a national park in Madagascar, Tsingy de Bemaraha, which is covered by sharp limestone rocks blocking anyone from exploring the area?
Biologists believe that in this labyrinth of knife-edged towers there may be species that humans have never met before.
Steven Goodman, a biologist who has lived and worked in Madagascar for 20 years, describes the region as “a refuge within paradise,” a place where a kind of biology more familiar a century ago can still be practiced and where simply walking around might put you face-to-face with a creature never seen before.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at
least one other source, but I have learned that every site has mistakes and
sadly once out the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is
therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian
calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
