My Rambling Thoughts
A very interesting day. It was a little cloudy and looked like rain. There was a lot of thunder and lightning between 10p and midnight last night. Then about 1:00 today the clouds burst over here. We have a small catch pond in the  commons area that is lined with rocks along the side. It drains through a culvert at the lower end. I have NEVER seen standing water in it. During this blinding downpour, there was at least a foot of water in it. After two hours there is still has some standing water. The storm lasted about 30 minutes and the street had a good two inches of water running down it in torrents. My deck even had about an inch of water, not enough to flood the house, but more than I have ever seen there either. I’m sure I’ll be reading about flooding around town soon. It is still overcast and more rain may be on the way. I’m sure this is the wettest monsoon we have had in a very long time. I remember attending summer school back in the 70’s when we had rain like this.

Interesting facts about Islam…
Muslim women wear the head-covering (hijab) in fulfillment of God's decree to dress modestly. From a practical standpoint, it serves to identify one as attempting to follow God in daily life and, therefore, protects women from unwanted advances from men. This type of modest dress has been worn by righteous women throughout history. Prominent examples are traditional Catholic Nuns, Mother Teresa and the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus.

Historical Facts…

Retro Native Humor…
In light of the rising frequency of human/grizzly bear conflicts, the Montana Department of Fish and Game is advising hikers, hunters, and fishermen to take extra precautions and keep alert for bears while in the field. "We advise that outdoorsmen should wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as not to startle bears that aren't expecting them," a spokesman said.  "We also advise outdoorsmen to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter with a bear".
It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity. Outdoorsmen should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear paw prints and scat.
A grizzly's paw is larger and its claws are longer than that of a black bear.  Black bear scat contains lots of berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear scat has little bells in it and smells like pepper.
Common Phrase Origins…
Cat Got Your Tongue?
Meaning: Something said when a person is at a loss for words
History: There are two possible sources for this common saying. The first refers to the cat-o’-nine-tails – a whip used by the English Navy for flogging. The whip caused so much pain that the victims were left speechless. The second refers to the practice of cutting out the tongues of liars and blasphemers and feeding them to cats.
Joke-of-the-day
Early one morning, a mother went in to wake up her son. "Wake up, son. It's time to go to school!"
"But why, Mom? I don't want to go."
"Give me two reasons why you don't want to go."
"Well, the kids hate me for one, and the teachers hate me, too!"
"Oh, that's no reason not to go to school. Come on now and get ready."
"Give me two reasons why I should go to school."
"Well, for one, you're 52 years old. And for another, you're the Principal!"
Rules of Thumb:
PLANNING YOUR TRAINING
Never increase your training by more than 10 percent a week. Increases of 10 to 15 percent every three weeks make more sense.
Yeah, It Really Happened
In a small bit of good news for the public education sector, a sexy female middle-school teacher in Florida was NOT having sex with her students. She was, however, showing them how to twerk during a party.
A student reported that the soccer coach and gym teacher had attended an end-of-year soccer gathering at a student's home and was twerking with students.
Perhaps as a way of measuring how well they absorbed the material she was teaching them, she also allegedly let one of the eighth-graders give her a lap dance.
Call it vocational training.
The investigation of the allegations includes cell-phone video of the teacher getting the lap dance, which was described as "a gross exercise of poor judgment."
Or "totally awesome" depending on which source you ask.
To cap off the afternoon of questionable judgment calls, the teacher then drove home drunk with a classmate in the car, according to other students at the party.
She was suspended for 15 days without pay. The superintendent says the educator was not fired because the student's parents were home at the time.
Somewhat Useless Information
Clip vs. Magazine
In small arms terms magazine technically refers to a box, drum or tube with a spring inside to help feed the rounds. Magazines can be a fixed part of the weapon, or detachable. Most detachable magazines can be removed and replaced with a full one to reload the weapon.
A clip is a device that is used to store multiple rounds of ammunition together as a unit, ready for insertion into the magazine or cylinder of a firearm. This speeds up the process of loading and reloading the firearm as several rounds can be loaded at once, rather than one round being loaded at a time.
**
A pistol is a handgun - but not all handguns are pistols.
The defining factor that makes a handgun a pistol is a chamber that is integral with the barrel. Semi-automatic handguns have a barrel with the chamber built in, which means they are pistols. Revolvers, on the other hand, are not pistols, because a revolver contains a cylinder that's separate from the barrel and contains multiple chambers.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site has mistakes and sadly once out the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
