My
Rambling Thoughts
Our free
day in Dublin was a much needed slow down before our flight home. I had walked
to Temple Bar, an area of Dublin with shops, pubs, restaurants, and lot of
night life the night before. What a hopping place. Bob and I walked back to
Trinity U as they had the best gift shop we saw on the trip. Then we meandered
over to Temple Bar and did some tourist shopping—t-shirts, key chains, etc.
Lunch was a split order of Fish and Chips and my last ½ pint of Guinness while
in Ireland. The Guinness Brewery (St. John’s Gate) is now a storage facility
but still interesting. Our hotel was right in central downtown Dublin. The
entry was decorated in Royal Purple with two purple long couches for laying and
relaxing. The walls were purple, the whole damn place was purple. Many of the
women were a little freaked out as it really looked like a whorehouse. We were
there because it was the only 4-star in central Dublin, with everything within
walking distance. It was a good hotel, once you got past the entry. On our last
morning I asked the doorman what kind of décor it was. He smiled and said ‘old
and purple, they are redecorating soon.’ I asked him ‘How soon?’, his reply ‘not
soon enough.’
Today was
another beautiful day. I took my vehicle in for needed maintenance to the tune
of $1200. It took all day but the dealer has a shuttle service, so I came home
and did my laundry from the trip. Sure glad that is now done. All my travel
stuff is now packed away, awaiting my next adventure. I also figured out how to
change the start screen colors and desktop page on my computer now has an
Ireland castle picture. Tomorrow will be time to get pics from the computer to
the iPad so I can have Ireland pics to show people.
Finally,
yesterday I watched some of the congressional hearings on the Secret Service.
Not surprised that the head resigned today. She was a true bureaucrat who couldn’t
really know what was wrong. Scary how the Secret Service has deteriorated over
the years.

Joke-of-the-day
There
was a student who was desirous of taking admission for a study course.
He was smart enough to get through the written test, a GD and was to appear for
the personal interview. Later, as the interview progressed, the interviewer
found this boy to be bright since he could answer all the questions correctly.
The interviewer got impatient and decided to corner the boy.
"Tell me your choice;" said he to the boy, "What's your choice:
I shall either ask you ten easy questions or ONE real difficult. Think well
before you make up your mind."
The boy thought for a while and said, "My choice is ONE real difficult
question."
"Well, good luck to you, you have made your own choice!" said the man
on the opposite side. Tell me: What comes first, Day or Night?"
The boy was jolted first but he waited for a while and said: "It's the
DAY, sir."
"How???????" the interviewer was smiling ("At last, I got
you!" he said to himself.)
"Sorry sir, you promised me that you will not ask me a SECOND difficult
question!"
Admission for the course was thus secured.
Yep, It
Really Happened
AUCKLAND,
New Zealand (UPI) - A New Zealand woman said she awoke recently to discover her
home and car had been covered in what she believes to be human feces from an
airplane. Karen Bass of Auckland said she awoke Sunday to discover there were
splotches of brown matter all over her house and her silver car, which she
believes to be human waste dropped from an airplane. Bass said her home is
directly in the flight path for planes coming into Auckland International
Airport. "The first thing when I walked out of my door this morning and I
saw it, I thought an airplane [expletive] on us. You open the door and it smells
like [expletive]," she told the New Zealand Herald. "I'm absolutely
disgusted at the moment. The amount of crap everywhere is horrendous," she
said. Bass said she is going to have a sample of feces independently tested to
verify it came from humans. "There's no way it's a bird or animal poo,
it's horrible. I'm sure it's human, what else could it be with huge clumps like
that?" she said. An Airways New Zealand spokeswoman suggested Bass
complain directly to the offending airline, but the homeowner said she would
not know which airline to address as she did not see the plane.
Somewhat
Useless Information
• The patron saint of
dentists: St. Apollonia. She reportedly had her teeth pulled out in A.D. 249 by
an anti-Christian mob.
• Despite the popular myth, George Washington didn't have wooden teeth - his
four sets of dentures were made of hippopotamus bone, elephant ivory and eight
human teeth from dead people, held together with gold palates and springs.
• Thanks to fluoride and other preventives, baby boomers are probably the last
generation to have a lot of cavities in their permanent teeth.
In 1959, dentists performed 34 extractions for every 100 people; now its half
that rate.
• Drugs can cause cavities. Antidepressants, antihypertensives, antihistamines,
decongestants and muscle relaxants all inhibit production of saliva, a natural
bacteria destroyer.
• Tiny gold hearts, butterflies and other tattoo images have become popular
among some trendy groups. The downside is that from a distance of more than
about three feet it just looks like you have food stuck in your teeth.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet
sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned
that every site contains mistakes and sadly once the information is out there,
many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events
occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be
totally accurate.
