Random Tidbits

Town laws in the U.S. Midwest in the 1880s were passed prohibiting the sale of ice cream sodas on Sunday. In Illinois, ingenious soda fountain owners got around the law by omitting the carbonated water and serving just the scoop of ice cream and the syrup. They called this a "Sunday Soda." Later the name was shortened to "sunday" and eventually just "sundae."

The Massachusetts Law School of 1647 required that towns with 50 or more families establish schools or pay a fine of 5 British pounds. Several schools were opened as a result of this law. Although the schools were not the first supported by the public, the law forcing their creation was an important milestone in public education

My Rambling Thoughts

I took my friend Andy to an appointment yesterday. He thought it was to interview him on OT after his surgery, turns out it was that and an OT session. After the OT he took his son and me to lunch. Nice! And I got to drive his F150 Ford double cab pickup. Nice ride. All the bells and whistles. Too big for my needs, but sure is a nice truck. I didn’t get back until too late to do this blog.

This morning I headed out to get some essentials, and as usual found some non-essentials along the way. I found a stick vac [I didn’t know I needed] for the carpeted steps for $19, and it works great. It would be perfect if it had a longer cord.

I got home in time to see most of the President’s news conference. He is so good at talking to people who love him. He is the best, the world’s problems are complicated, and people in troubled areas have been fighting for a long time. According to him, India and Pakistan have been enemies for centuries and have been fighting for decades. Hmmm.

It is another very warm day, but I have a cooler, so I’m doing fine.

Still smiling after seeing the Great Mattress Migration of 2019 in Denver. Seems people brought a bunch of inflatable mattresses to watch a movie in a park. The upcoming storm brought a lot of wind, and the light mattresses went flying across the open area into a fence and a pool. No one hurt.

Today’s Puzzle
Answer at the bottom of this page

On the first day of school, someone murdered a history teacher. There were four people at the school that the police suspected had done it: the landscaper, a math teacher, a basketball coach, and the principal.

These were their alibis:
The landscaper said he was outside mowing the lawn.
The math teacher said he was giving a mid-year test.
The basketball coach said he was running practice drills with his players.
The principal said she was in her office.

After giving their alibis, the police arrested the killer immediately. Who killed the history teacher and how did the police know?
